What’s the point of being in a loyalty program with qantas?

No I didn't rely on my status I relied on the Adice from Qantas and Emirates on line, phone staff and on ground staff. Cabin staff have always been respectful. In particular by my families quick responses to medical emergencies. This response has now confirmed the airlines plants on this website. Perhaps they would have a better profile if some one would acknowledge this.

I don’t agree with that. I would have actually welcomed you to the site had I known this was your first post (the mobile site doesn’t always make that known). You may have legitimate points of view but what does your qualifications have to do with it? I think that’s what people here would object to because they automatically think that’s what you’d put in your complaint letter to QF. It’s just an experience thing really.

My qualifications have nothing to do with anything. I just couldn’t book a seat on line. Not sure who you are to welcome me. Are you a moderator or from qantas or emirates?

Not one positive response to me makes me very suspicious! I have now taken photos of all these responses and will post them in as many media outlets as I can.

Ok. Well, I’m unsure what A Current Affair will do with random messages. All I’m saying is if you pen a letter to qantas saying you’re a Gold FF who has a degree then you need a better argument than that. This is from experience on here and actual experience from me. We are not trying to undermine you; you are just not selling your point of view.

Thanks mod. Have taken your suggestion and it worked! I contact both emirates and qantas and no one has suggested this before!

With all your life and post tertiary experience, you needed a bunch of internet randoms to tell you to phone the airlines?

I would be asking for partial refund on those degrees.

And now we see why it went from simple seat change request to security called so quickly.

I can reassure you that people being in their 20s does not mean they paid less for their ticket nor are non-frequent flyers. As you can see from my post history, I myself am a P1 with Qantas at only 20 years old.

In my few years of flying I have found being calm, and just asking whether there are any solutions is much better than shouting at someone behind a desk (not saying you are doing that, just that I have seen it before). You could also try posting on here calmly to ask whether there is a way to select seats on EK flights for example, plenty of people on here happy to help with that since it is not always obvious!

Regarding the upgrades, I have only received one free upgrade and that was on Emirates a few years ago when I was one of two Platinums on board the flight. For the points upgrades its best to think that you will fly in the seat you paid for but occasionally you're lucky and get moved up, but even on some routes (SIN-LHR for example) even for a P1 an upgrade to First from Business will still not clear.

The airlines job is to sell seats, not to give them away, they can get a lot more revenue from a last minute paid customer than an upgrade would bring in.

all that is fine. but do you have post tertiary qualifications? ;)

Just checking but when you book your flights do you choose seats? Were your flights booked as QF ones or through EK? Sorry if I missed that you said that. If flying on a nonQF leg with a QF ticket sometimes it’s not the QF booking reference you need for seat allocation on the other airline. The operating airline reference is usually printed on the eTicket somewhere and that’s what you use.
I agree Opups are almost as scarce as hens’ teeth! And these days I’ve found SG not not very successful on popular routes.
Anyway welcome to AFF. And no, the posters who responded to you are not airline staff or plants. :)

Oh mara where do I start. As you can see from my name I am also in the medical field and have done my share of inflight assistance as well. That means diddely when it comes to loyalty programs as it should.
I doubt you realise the effect your words have on other people.I accept that you are probably a very nice person when met but online well....You really need to do a bit of research. For anything with flying this is a great resource-but you have to look for the best advice.

Then there is your attack on juddles a person you have obviously never met or have the slightest idea what he does. But let me say juddles has done more than virtually anyone here to advance the prosperity and health of developing countries. To do so he literally puts his life on the line.At times he has to liase with armed guerrillas. He is entitled to have a drink or 2 when he leaves that environment and come home to his family.I could say a lot more but that would only embarrass him.Yes he is not as well educated as you at an University. However in the University of Hard Knocks he is without peer.

Thanks mod. Have taken your suggestion and it worked! I contact both emirates and qantas and no one has suggested this before! As to the rest of the posts I am appalled by your respones, I really wanted some helpful advice but all I got was horrible judgments! Why are you wasting my time and yours. Clearly you have nothing better to do!

I’m appalled that your entitlement makes you believe that you are too educated to be called out on your baseless stereotypes.

Many on here are the 20-30 yr old that you’ve branded.

You ask genuine questions you’ll get genuine responses, you start to brand people you’ll end up sounding like a tit and get responses accordingly.

i have been in the qantas frequent flyer program since 2003, as has my husband, we have been continuously at the gold status, travelling for both business and leisure. We undertake at least one overseas trip, sometimes 2 a year and several interstate trips. In that time we have only ever been upgraded once! Indeed in our last three trips overseas, we have left from Athens airport and have been seated, all three times in the second row from the back of the plane. Those sitting around us paid less for their ticket, were not frequent flyers and were in their early 20s - we are in our 60s. When we tried to change our seats in Dubai, at the lounge, we were made to feel like criminals and in fact they called the security guards, as I said we are in our 60s, professionals with post tertiary educations! Shame on qantas and shame on emirates. We no longer expect anything from these airlines! We leave from Athens tomorrow I am expecting a back row seat!

and they say millennials are entitled.... ;)
Bet I've got more degrees than you! AND I'm a 30 y/o who never sits further back than row 6 ;)
Does that mean I get a suite for free? Let me call the airline, STAT.

This entire thread is hilarious. Thanks for making my Tuesday.

What an odd thread. So the OP was complaining about the seat allocation on Emirates - that they got a poor seat, as a result of not selecting seats beforehand? I did the same flight from Athens a couple of weeks ago - and I selected my seat on the Emirates website two months before travel. Mrs_G, who was on a separate itinerary, got her seat when check-in opened 48 hours before departure on a bus from Delphi.
