Its not an issue from a booking perspective. But flexibility goes out the door if JQ has a problem with the aircraft for that one flight, such as it gets stuck on the ground in HNL the day before. DJ has plenty of flight flexibility to cope better if things go pear shaped.

But it your time and money so the decision if completely yours. I am just pointing out some things that you may choose to take into consideration.

Very true and thanks for doing so (although I wouldn't mind getting stuck in HNL for a few days due to a SYD trip :p)

I probably will end up on DJ, like I always do...but I got a few months to make a decision.

Did you get QP access before/after the flight?

I need to go to SYD mid next year and i'm tossing up between JQ *class and DJ Y+ (most economy flights are sold out due to something in sydney so I might as well go up a class). Right now I'm thinking DJ mainly because I'm a Velocity member and not a QFF member, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, lounge access is available before the flight! :p

How do you get around to booking Y+ on DJ? Is that option available already?

I'm thinking of doing a mini status run incorporating the BNE-SYD and SYD-MEL and MEL-SYD JQ international flights so I can get ther SCs to get to a forthcoming conference in Melbourne the second week of November. My question is whether as a QF WP I will be able to use the first class desks at SYD and MEL INTL terminals to check in?! I am assuming that F lounge access won't be a problem as a WP?

My alternative is to use FF points and save my cash for a Circle Asia or split DONE4 to cover the 600SCs I need by end February. In fact to do the status run I may end up with having to spend an extra night (or two) in hotels in BNE and SYD which means I may simply be better off saving the hotel money and travelling D class on the Qf international flight dom sectors ($475 or thereabouts compared with $239)

I'm a little inclined not to spend any more cash with QF until I can assess the upcoming FF scheme changes.

Note that these $239 *Class flights are FULLY flex (aside from a $30 cancel fee); i.e. you can rebook to other *Class flights with no charge.

Although there is nothing in the rules about this, I hazard a guess that in the event of severe IROPS one will swiftly find themselves on a 763 millennium seat.

I expect they will send you away to the JQ check-in desks since you are checking-in for a JQ flight. But you can always try.

Checkin will be at a 'designated' JQi counter - These generally open 3 hours before the flight.

See leny's post above.

As a QF WP you will have access to the Qantas First Class lounges.

No it isn't, but this trip is in July 08, so I'm assuming I will be able to by then.

Is this likely to be the case once QF offer premium economy?

doubtful.... It's not like QF to be generous.

In saying that Jetstar themselves call it Business Class so who knows!

It will depend surely on how they price PE - if that falls into the same price as a JQ *class fare than one could expect it to earn PE SCs. I guess we are expecting a major shake soon and all the answer will be known.

I have now done 5 of these segments and can make a few points:
  • Check-in opens 3 hours before scheduled departure like any JQi flight.
  • You can use the
    i_tail_jetstar.gif
    Class counter.
  • J lounge access is available (Flounge for WP's ;))
  • Drinks service is:
    • Pre departure Sometimes ~ 50/50 - (Water, Juice and sometimes bubbles).
    • During the flight cold drinks are offered including soft-drink, beer, mixed, bubbles and red/white wine.
  • Standard snack offerings are available, some presented on a tray where you pick and choose, others on request.
  • Here's a guide to whats available (excluding "Meal Choices" & Hot drinks):
  • On only one flight have points/SC's automatically posted (in Dec). I have had to submit a request for the others.
  • As you get lounge access, use the photocopier to make copy of your BP for possible subsequent proof of travel claim; by the time the gate and immigration agents have their way with it, there's nothing left!

Thanks for the pointers. I have only done 1 of these so far I guess I was lucky that the SC's came through fine. "D" imagration take your boarding pass. I do remember thinking "hope I don't need it for proof of travel".

I do think it is a cheap way of getting a guaranteed "J" seat and 1.25 miles.

Flounging is always a nice bonus!:D

I was looking for some positioning flights MEL-SYD of a Friday next May and noticed JQ30 is available. I was thinking maybe a
i_tail_jetstar.gif
Class run for some 'cheap' SC's but when I went to book I found
i_tail_jetstar.gif
Class was not currently being offered on the flight.

I rummaged around a bit more and I was unable to book
i_tail_jetstar.gif
Class on any of these domestic segment I tried after 30th September; Jet/Saver/Light/Flex fares are still bookable.

A close look show
i_tail_jetstar.gif
Class still bookable for international flights.

Whether this is permanent or temporary I know not.

Also, FWIW, these segments have now gone up to $289 - somewhat more than the $239 of a year ago.

No more JQ18 after Sept 30 as it moves to OOL and becomes JQ20 with no starclass domestic leg on sale as you mentioned, not sure why!

I have been able to ask the immigration staff to leave me the stub of the BP - they just need the 'D' sticker part.

Some BP readers (the ones for Qantas in Brisbane are notorious for it - but not sure if things have changed recently) actually retain the stub of the ticket. So photocopy is still the best plan! Quarantine/Immigration staff will let you retain the stub though if it's there.

I always remove the stub before going to the departure gate and have not had a issue so far. I vaguely remember quarantine/immigration allowing me to keep the whole boarding pass, including D sticker, recently.
