Spoke too soon. Our build admin person just called to update me on the progress/process. Slab cut will be finished off this morning then they move on to plumbing etc then slab prep. No more feeling like we're in a black hole.

Agree. I contacted four different people since Friday trying to get the right info. It's almost like they didnt want to talk to us until they worked out who our contact was meant to be. Feeling very positive now though, and our admin is confident it will move quickly once the slab is down. I've heard very positive things about the site supervisor from others in the estate, and there are no issues with us arraning our own inspections.

The crazy thing is it's about 3 times the size of the house we used to live in (a tiny 2 bedroom weatherboard), yet compared to many new homes this one is on the "small" side at 28 squares plus garage.

Still trying to get the contact details of the site supervisor and support contact out of the builder; I've contacted them three times since Friday and got nowhere. We want our inspector to check the slab but its hard to arrange when no one will talk to you.

28 squares is a terrific family home. Mr FM and I were trying to work out the size of the house he grew up in and we reckon it was about 13 squares and that was pretty average for those days.

Mine was about 10 squares, so this will feel massive. Though small in comparison to many builds, I know someone building a 56sq house!

Ms FM’s current house is slightly under 10 squares, so yes I know what that is like, although it has been a lovely first home for them - couldn’t swing a mouse in the kitchen though. The new one they are going to build is 24 squares + double garage + alfresco, so,like you are very excited about having room to move!

I think houses are like incomes - whatever you have you expand to use it all up.

Our new build (4 bed 2 living, 2 bath) is 163m2 internal. Or 17.5sq's. So 28sq's sounds massive!

That’s way too much to clean. We effectively have two large homes being a full length two story. It’s exhausting and easy to give up on.

The plan we love is 40sq - its a lot of house for 2 people and Im already thinking we need at least a robot vacuum.

ours is 54 squares -64 if you include the indoor swimming pool. We have cleaners to do the floors, but I do the rest myself. It’s actually not that much to clean (although I am very good at ignoring cleaning), as there aren’t actually that many more rooms, they are just bigger.

We’ve gone the opposite. Our last move was into a 135 sqm apartment. Don’t need (or want) anything bigger now.

Ordered this light yesterday for our front entrance. I'd been eyeing off another light for months but couldnt justify the $400 plus they wanted. This will go nicely with the white/timber theme we seem to have fallen into.

No we have aircon. But sometimes all you need is a fan overnight. (I've never lived in a house with aircon....).
