SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I was thinking of cruiser and envying his cut down sleeveless bikie looking SQ airlines printed top as I was in the overheated short hop SYD-SIN last night arriving at 0010. Only 2 of us in the 4 seater 777 so we both got a separate bed made up.

When I went to my room at the CP Changi and sat down on the bed there was a very uncomfortable plonk as I hit a 3cm piece thick full bed size piece of plywood in the bed. It took 2 phones calls to explain the problem and at least until 0145 to get this board removed. I was feeling a bit put out and nicely waited for a little offer to mollify me and so scored a late checkout tonight of 2200 for my flt on to FRA and JFK.

I cannot help you Duffa as I no longer post on AFF - but you are my cobber so best i make an exception.

218 is 350 right? Make sure you have bulkhead seat - I assume you have no status so call KF and ask for bh seat in row 11 - little chance you will get one but worth asking - I did actually book one online 2 weeks ago with zero status.

If row 11 not available ask for bh seat 19D or 19F - yes these are bassinet seats but little chance they will be reqd on 218.

I never eat on 218 - anytime F lounge access gives me plenty champs and food if I want it pre-boarding but your PP plan sounds ok - I never eat bf on 218 either - sleep from go to whoa - they had Taittinger in T3 J lounge 2 weeks ago - big big come down from CH but what do you do? See plonk - drink plonk - you know the drill.

BTW - how is Risotto - tell her penegal and Cruiser are still waiting for her to join us for dinner - she talks a heap more sense than her old man does!

Thanks Cruiser,
I think we'll go straight to sleep and do the late/no breakfast, like you suggest.
I'd love it if you could PM your contact in the call centre to see if we can score 19D/F, though I totally understand if you feel that you've shared it too often. As I said to Penegal last year, I can still sleep with my feet in the 359 shoebox!!!!

Finally; Risotto is well. We're catching up Friday night in the CBD. Venue TBA !!!

On my way SIN - FRA - JFK. I realised once on the other side that I had no security screening at all in SIN, I do have a TSA Pre though. Is this normal?

I'm wondering when the best time to push waitlist chaser requests through is? We booked our Europe trip for August '19 a year out. We got OK flights, but flights between Australia and Singapore are on the 777, the A380 flights are waitlisted.

Wondering when is the ideal time to request waitlist flights are cleared? A month out or a week out? (I made quite a few calls and got some waitlists cleared shortly after booking)

Has anyone here flown SQ business class with an infant? When doing online seat selection it will only let the passenger with the infant associated select the bassinet seat. Which pretty much means that my wife and I can never sit next to each other. I emailed them asking if they could allocated the seats and got the following response:

Please be advised that we may only allocate one bassinet seat per infant passenger and upon review on your desired / preferred seats it is also a seat with a bassinet facility.

For family traveling together with an infant other members of the family will be allocated closest to the bassinet seat where the infant bassinet seat allocation, either next to it, across an aisle or behind the infant bassinet allocation.

However you may request your desired seat allocation at the check in counter if thier is no other infant passenger on your flights.

I find this a bit ridiculous. I thought it should be the other way around. If we are the only family with an infant, let us select our seats at this stage next to each other, with the proviso that if there is another infant I might get moved. I'd hate to rock up on the plane and see a single traveller has that seat just because it's a bulkhead.

Anyone have any success being able to get seats together as a travelling party?

Yeh call and request it.
We had the middle 2 seats with bassinet on the sq221 J

yep HUCA. haven't flown it yet, but have been allocated the 2 middle for upcoming J flight. (NB these weren't available to select from seatmap online)

There is some logic to SQ's actions. If they assign both of you the bassinet seats and the day before departure another infant needs your seat, where are they going to seat you? You could be rows away from your partner instead of right beside them.

Slightly off topic but SQ related.

In early July it will be our first time we have an overnight transit between Suite flights in Changi and have booked the CP.

My questions are

1 Is it far to walk from terminal 3 to the hotel.

2 Is it far to walk to the first class checkin from the CP, or is it easier to use the standard entrance.

A1 The CP is in T3 so not far. You may have to walk past it anyway if you pick the right exit from the terminal.

A2 For the sake of a few minutes it is worth it if you haven't done it before. There is an F check-in in T3.

CP is attached to terminal 3, it is a very short walk. Turn left as you leave customs/baggage claim and walk parallel to the terminal (in the direction of terminal 2), you will see the entry - very visible.
To get to the check in counter, walk the same route in reverse but on level 2.
CP has an entry/exit on both level 1 (arrivals) and level 2 (departures).

Great hotel. Pack your bathers for a swim, good for a stretch out.

After debuting in the new suites and enjoying much Krug, Dom, icy vodka, and I believe a Baileys nightcap, the walk seemed further than expected. My wife said it wasn't very far though. CP was great with runway view.

Yea I do see this. But there are single bassinets as well on the aisle sides as well. Anyway I’ll give them a call and see how I go. Otherwise travelling with baby in tow we will be giving ourselves plenty of time to get to the airport early.

Flew SQ288 SIN-SYD-CBR in F earlier this week... I didn't mind the little SYD transit at all, and was a bit surprised that they even offered both the Dom and the Krug for the pre-flight drinks on the last little leg... hopefully the flight sticks around for a few years, but I won't be betting on it.

We have done the F checkin several times, always very special. Certainly worth it if it’s only a little bit further to walk.

This trip we’re going SQ suites over and CX F back to HKG with a few days at the Conrad HK before CX J back to SYD.

Deka2 we leave our main luggage and just take our carry on thru immigration check for the walk to the Crowne Plaza. About 12 hours in Singapore is my limit for humidity and we find the CP to be very comfortable for splitting up a long haul trip.
In Perth we get ticketed thru to London or Los Angeles so our luggage is handled seamlessly. Breakfast in TPR then off you go.
I think we are up to thirteen times as the Hotel keeps a count for us. We are in the Intercontinental loyalty system.
The walk to the Crowne Plaza is not far unless you have moved into extra glasses of Krug.
