I have done lots of travelling in Oz but v. little overseas.

I am off to NZ this weekend - may I ask some questions?

1. I am going QF per-mel-akl. Do i get my boarding pass for mel-akl at per?

2. Can I do OLCI for the mel-akl and return akl-syd flights?

3. I will be taking hand-luggage only. Does this mean no water bottle?

4. With the Duty Free, where should I get it?

6.With only hand luggage, does any liquid ban ban mean I can't get any duty free booze?

I am off to NZ this weekend - may I ask some questions?

1. I am going QF per-mel-akl. Do i get my boarding pass for mel-akl at per?

Yes! Note that there may be a special counter at check-in for Domestic to International Connections.

2. Can I do OLCI for the mel-akl and return akl-syd flights?

NO!

3. I will be taking hand-luggage only. Does this mean no water bottle?

Yes "water bottle" PER-MEL, but NO "water bottle" MEL-AKL.

4. With the Duty Free, where should I get it?

Assuming MEL-AKL only the answer is Auckland, but it's a bit late to get the best discounts with a pre-order. Whan are you returning; you may be able to do this on the way back: Duty Free Stores - Frequent Buyer Club

6.With only hand luggage, does any liquid ban ban mean I can't get any duty free booze?

No, but you need to pre-order for collection at MEL/SYD/AKL internation departures/arrivals. There are no liquids issues for domestic flights.

1. I am going QF per-mel-akl. Do i get my boarding pass for mel-akl at per? Yup - should be some form of international transfer desk

2. Can I do OLCI for the mel-akl and return akl-syd flights?No - no OLCI int'l

3. I will be taking hand-luggage only. Does this mean no water bottle? Yup - assuming you mean a full bottle? Don't buy one airside in PER either as you will lose it at screening in MEL

4. With the Duty Free, where should I get it? I believe people rate the AKL duty free quite highly due to being fairly cost-competitive

6.With only hand luggage, does any liquid ban ban mean I can't get any duty free booze? Just realised you will be transiting MEL so I don't think you can get the DF in AKL - someone else needs to confirm that

I have taken empty water bottles through security ok, then filled them from a tap.

I don't think the liquid rules apply domestically so you should be able to buy DF in AKL past security then transit ok with it in MEL (as long as MEL-PER is not a domestic leg of an international flight (I don't think there are any on that route)?

Thanks for the help. Have noticed this in the Qantas FAQ

Duty-free purchases:

  • Liquids, aerosols and gels purchased from duty-free shops within New Zealand airports, located after security screening points, will be allowed onboard.
