Flying Melb to Syd with QF platinum status. We all know it takes a fair amount of flying to gain such status. Other than premium lounge access and a better chance at upgrades one also expects the promised priority boarding lane and priority baggage handling. My flight/experience has neither. Boarding was done via two mass entrance lines (and I was there before doors opened because they were late boarding) - no mention of priority and my baggage came off with the masses. I’m not in a rush and truthfully little impact other than not losing 10 minutes because I ended up on later train. But I am still annoyed. If the perks are not there, don’t advertise them.

Where was there no priority lane? Remember Gold and premium passengers can access it. I agree they let randoms through. Usually little old ladies.

There was a lane, with a sign - totally ignored by Qantas staff doing the check-in as well as all passengers. I saw a few of us muttering under our breath.

I'm used to the premium lane being ignored after the initial few minutes of boarding, but it was ignored by all (Q staff and passengers) from "boarding is commencing" - even the announcement made no mention of it.

Yep. It’s frustrating. There is no will to enforce it. In Hong Kong they do it right ;)

How do you know the priority lane was ignored? On some routes, more than half the passengers are entitled to use it.

Tonight coming back from Bne to syd. The premium boarding lane was mentioned saying business and priority on the right would be boarded first. It would then be by row number starting at 20 - 30. A guy was checking the Y line for pax between row 20 and 30 before boarding began. No checks of premiums lane.
When boarding came both both boarded at the same time.
I've grown to know its not ever going to be done.
I actually saw a SG pax in the Y line. The guy directed him to the priority line but he was near the front of the Y line so wanted to stay as the other was too long.

Yeh bags is also a thing I know will never come out first on domestic.

Conversely international works much better.
Line isn't policed but at least it is boarded first.
Recently on an a380 in J my wp bags came out early. Then had to wait for my other families NB bags who were also in J. So some level of priority working there. (Or just luck and coincidence).

My bne syd flight tonight I didn't feel the qf love on. Compared to my syd bne Friday night there were huge service differences.
Friday
- welcome back mr sdtravel. On the right please.
- what would you like to eat mr sdtravel.
We have a chicken salad or a (something I forget) which would you like.
Tonight
- welcome, row 4 on the left.
- what would you like. The options they just announced were salad or pork with rice.
- seemed to remember to give everyone water only on the window pax and the other side onwards. Didnt circle back to give me one.

Yes first world issues

Were your family's bags also tagged priority? They should have been if you checked in together..

Yeh everything was tagged priority. But I have found being tagged with an orange tag and coming out early are two different things. Had a second bag once that was given a priority flag but put under a NB friends name when we checked in together. Waited ages for it.

My understanding is the baggage handlers use the tags to identify priority, so as long as all bags were correctly tagged I think it's purely coincidence that yours came out early and non/low-status friend's or family's came out later.

Perhaps, but to me it seems some type of computer may be presorting them given these two examples for my bags.

Just as an aside, recently my bags and my girlfriends bags tagged as priority in Singapore due to my status. By the time we landed in Kuala Lumpur, my bags appeared first but the priority tags had been removed from my girlfriend's bag and came out last...

I have to say that mostly on VA, they do both very well. Even many occasions seeing them turn people back.

I'll join the disappointed on Thursday as I finally crack 1400 SCs for the first time on my flight home from Melbourne on Thursday. Hopefully it'll help make the nearly 30 return trips so far this year a bit more bearable. I don't know how some of you mega flyers do it.
