Woolworths gift card thread

Checkout guy said that he had to ask me why I'm buying them, to ensure that I wasn't being scammed.

Had similar at one store yesterday. Said there was an ATO scam where people were told they could only pay their bill via sending giftcards and staff were told to offer this warning to customers buying large amounts of cards.

Some recent experiences....

My ISP (TPG) recently starting treating the e-mails with the actual WW e-Gift card as spam. (Since fixed by making an exception rule.)

No $100 Perfect gift cards left at WW Tuggeranong this morning, but WW Kambah had some. Checkout guy said that he had to ask me why I'm buying them, to ensure that I wasn't being scammed. I replied truthfully, "For the points." As we're waiting for the cards to be activated, he asked me if it was some sort of special offer that I'd received. "Um, no, it's in the latest catalogue", as I gesture towards the big orange promo sign on top of the gift card display, about three metres away. o_O

I've never had these cards work before with certain Bendigo Bank terminals, with them always throwing an "Invalid Date" error whenever I'd tried, just on spec...... until today. :)

Bendigo bank ATMs? What do they have to do with these gift cards?

Sorry, in hindsight I should've been more explicit. I was referring to the Verifone VX-series EFTPOS terminals, as issued by Bendigo Bank and used by merchants such as my local pharmac_ and hairdresser. I'd previously been unable to use any Perfect gift card at either (when the card was swiped, the terminal would just display "Invalid Date", and not process the transaction), but today it worked at the pharmac_. I expect it'll now work at the hairdressers too.... I'll know for sure next Saturday.

gotcha, i noticed the same with retailers having that style of eftpos machine, some newer card terminals didnt work with these gift cards

Gift card offers starting on 2nd of May. I'm interested in the "Ultimate Gift card for her" potentially 14.5% off David jones spend. I haven't noticed these cards in woolworths yet though, has anyone seen them around?

Never seen these anywhere before: Ultimate Gift card for her

Seen the ultimate for guys - BCF/Supercheap and ultimate for kids - toys r us/JB hifi at Big W before,
But the ultimate for her was strangely absent

They rolled out new mothers Day stand on weekend.... Got some extra the perfect gift from ;)
Pretty sure they are on that!

If anyone is still looking for these cards, Bankstown still has a ton of these left.

I should mention that self serve will direct you to a counter to purchase giftcards here. And whether they will accept eGC or regular GC will be up to how informed the register operator is, some will be like a hawk and get the manager immediately when presenting a GC, others just shrug and process it. Venture here at your own risk for the spoils, estimated to be about 20-30k of cards on the shelves atm.

Those signs say limit of 5 per person in the fine print. That's probably why there are so many there.

Over the weekend a local store in Doncaster, Vic restocked these and they were happy to sell them but made me go to the service desk. I went to get more last night and they told me that had specifically received instructions not to accept payment by electronic Wish card for these cards.

So you could still use a Woolworths physical gift card to pay?

Whilst I haven't purchased any today I doubt that the system has been changed. It may be that some staff are being more vigilant though.

I will add that I did buy some late last night with a WISH card and encountered no problems using the usual subterfuge methods of distraction.

The limit is not being enforced. Bankstown is more stringent about GC being paid for by GC.

I've just bought 21 today and paid by wish egiftcards. I think it will depend on the store manager

Yeah each store is different and depends on how the managers interpret it.

Exactly like the harvey norman saga

Agree. I don't think much has changed. Some staff are over zealous and others just don't care. Usual subterfuge is likely to produce results.
