Ah...NZ weather and work travel.

It gets to the point of being easier to jump in a rental car. You can do Welly to Rotorua in under 6 hours.

I remember going to a job interview in Invercargill from Christchurch - it was just a day trip except fog came in and Invercargill airport closed for my return flight. The firm I interviewed with organised me a hotel room (I only had the clothes I was wearing - shops closed by the time got out of airport).

Next day, fronted at airport and it was still closed so they decided to bus us to ZQN. Got there. ZQN closed. People took off for rental cars and cleaned them out - people car pooled.

There was talk of busing us back to Invercargill. And then there was a break in the weather, we got out and the airport closed again a short time later.

A guy behind me was complaining about something trivial and I remember turning around and saying - I’ve been in the same clothes for 2 days, I have not brushed my hair and my feet hurt (only had heels) so stop complaining!

And since that day I never do a day trip without the necessitities to get me through the next morning routine!

Another colleague did hire a car. Except the one he booked hadn’t been returned because of all the issues. He waited hours waiting to get his and meanwhile others were piling into a queue as the flights were continually cancelled. It’s been a bit shambolic over there.

In the end MrP could have attended in the afternoon but he wasn’t able to as he hadn’t participated in the Welcome Ceremony so he was, well, not welcome I guess. He will undertake this tomorrow.

Burke affair ignored by the mainstream press, ignored by his party even though basically identical to the Barnaby situation.
Affair with staffer whilst still married.Flew her First class around the world on taxpayers money. Now his wife.Still on the front bench.

Barnaby everyone after blood but his own party rumoured to about to tap him on the shoulder to resign and liberals publicly saying he should.
So one side appears to be taking action, the other not so much.
Stop using excuses. Still defensive Mathias excuse rather than addressing the issue. #redrooterwithchild

Is he on a Marae?

I'm not excusing Barnaby just pointing out the hypocrisy of some.
Could you excuse Tony Burke?
No, yes you are excusing Barnaby and you are using the Mathias obfuscation defence. Play the current issue.

I was specifically talking about the NP and LP's appalling behaviour wrt Julia Gillard and Sheryl Kernot.
Funny you should mention Cheryl Kernot, but you left out Gareth Evans. Funny you should mention shadow minister Julia Gillard but leave out her colleague Craig Emerson.

You can take high dugeon on particular aspects now and attempt to narrow the debate, but it's a pointless thing to do. Regrettably this sort of thing happens across the political spectrum, the social spectrum etc etc. We can trot out examples on 'your' side just as easily as you can take them out on ours. Just pointless on a flying and related forum.

Or Bob Hawke? Poor Hazel.

That term sounds familiar. I think he may be. Yes. I’ve checked and he is. He has worked there several times before so perhaps this time they are using a different location. I know he participated in one in Auckland. Quite confronting to start with.

Let’s stop the historical blame and excuses and blame shifting, draw a line under it, and address the current situation of the soon to be Deputy PM.

I'm sorry you have no idea what is in my mind.I think Barnaby should resign as a minister.
I also think Tony Burke should not be on Shorten's front bench.

Beside I have not even seen the Mathias view as being on call I have missed the news report.
So now will you stop evading the issue of Tony Burke.

PS Cheryl Kernot accused ALP members of leaking about her affair
LINDA MOTTRAM: With a threat to go to the police and accusations against the Labor Party, Cheryl Kernot has ended weeks of silence and spoken about her affair with Gareth Evans and the manner of its revelation.

Ms Kernot spoke to Monica Attard on ABC Radio's Sunday Profile program, threatening to refer to the Federal Police the journalist who published the details of what are said to be personal emails between the two former politicians.
AM Archive - Kernot speaks of Evans affair

Ms Kernot also used the interview to accuse the Labor Party of being behind the revelations as pay back. Michael Vincent reports.

Let’s just turn to something else. This year Joyce, next year - who knows. They are all just as bad as each other which is why the politicians really aren’t slinging the mud. They are all mired in it.

You want a debate that maximises the Conservative's embarrassment. Good on yer. I'm happy to have one that maximises the left's embarrassment. You brought up Gillard and Kernot and I'm not inclined to 'draw a line' under them just yet, either. Gillard is the gift for Conservatives that keeps giving. Toilet diplomacy?

Like drron, I have no idea what the 'Mathius' gambit is - is it some sort of talking point handed out by Shorten?

See how pointless this is? But if you wish to serve, we can volley back, back and forth, back and forth, as long as we are all having fun here.

No I’m not involving any other person as excuses or justification. The Barnaby issue is the only issue at hand currently.

And, the longer it goes on the more it brings discredit to the LNP, and in fact politicians in general.

The NP will dump him by the end of the week. So should we.
