Hi all,
I am looking at booking a holiday in SE Asia for a couple of weeks in early April. I have pinned down that we will fly into Singapore and likely out of Kuala Lumpur.

However, my girlfriend is keen for a resort style experience and to visit a third place for a few days in-between. I was wondering, does anybody have any recommendations on where they like to go? Resorts aren't my style, so something with activities and stuff to see nearby would make me happy (nature or cruelty free sanctuaries would be good). Countries on my short list would be Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam and budget would be preferably below $200 a night.

Grateful for any and all ideas, I am normally very solid on trip planning, but a resort request has thrown me for six and i need some help!

Cheers

I would suggest you look into Penang or Langkawi maybe. Easy to get to from both SIN or KUL, and a good price-range of resorts.

Alternatively, Koh Samui or coughet, although I can't speak for what accommodation $200 per night would buy you there. There are some very nice resorts there that I have been to, but they are more expensive than that.

I love Langkawi but personally I’d head to KK, has been a couple of years since we were there last but the prices weren’t too bad and there is loads more sightseeing to do in the area especially if you enjoy nature. It’s about 2 1/2 hours from KL though which does put some people off. Last 2 times we were in Langkawi it seemed as though half of Perth had migrated there and it felt like a more upmarket Bali but we still had a ball. Langkawi is your best bet if you are time poor as it’s only a 45-50 minute flight

I loved Kota Kinabalu. Plenty of resort type hotels as well as LOADS to do in and around the area.

A budget of <$200pn would require a trip to TA and then look for packages.
Langkawi is great. Penang is becoming very dirty and more like a Bali. Hence Pricewise Langkawi > Penang
