My brother just rang to say that his wife's brother had died of a probable heart attack. That is sad enough for her family, especially his wife & children. (I would only see him once every three or four years so he was not a particular friend of mine).

However, what makes it even more confronting is that he died on a visit to the Falkland Islands. I haven't got the full story but I assume that he and his wife were on a voyage to the Antarctic. Anyway, it appears that his wife is now stranded on the Falkland Islands. I assume he was taken to the local hospital and the ship departed.

Apparently there are only a couple of flights a week from there and she may have to try to get on a military flight to London and then travel home to Perth. So not only has she lost her husband of some 40 years but has a horrendously complicated, and long, path to get herself and his remains back here.

I also hope they had adequate travel insurance.
Sorry to hear that OZDUCK. Even though he wasn’t a particular friend it is still sad for your SIL’s family. The remote location and its attendant difficulties of bringing him home adds a further layer of stress and grief.

How can Macquarie Dictionary name as its word of the year for 2017 something that no one has ever heard of?

Easy. Its not about the word, but to get Macquarie Dictionary a few pathetic column inches for a day so the CEO meets a Key Performance Indicator and gets their bonus.

Thats so sad, Oz, my thoughts that she gets home to her family soon and gets to take care of her husband.

And all the Pork chop talk is cruel as well!! I love pork but rarely get to eat it.

The plus side to a hot summer, lots more salads and fruit. Dinner Saturday night was just watermelon for me.

Lamb is my favourite with pork a close second.

Can't go too much wrong with pork chops and when they're giving them away it makes the decision to refuse so much harder.

Tonight's dinner was slow cooker beef Mongolian with steamed rice, to make up for the detoxing over the past few days as too hot to cook.

Hubby was very happy.

Asian sizing v American sizing is always fun.

Bought cotton boxer shorts for husband, tight in all the wrong places. Bought same size from the US, you can literally attach them to a pole and you have a flag.

Thankfully, I have sewing machines so altered them to smaller waist/less fabric but still room to jiggle.

The things they don't warn you about, before you get married. One day you will be measuring your husband for jiggle room stuff...

I do like Violet Crumble - about once a year I remember they exist. Much better than crunchies.

I don’t get the appeal of Lindt balls though. I find them quite plasticy.

I didn't realise there was a market for business shirts without a pocket.

Mum bought me a present for Christmas and didn't notice shirt was missing a pocket. I'm don't feel comfortable without a pocket.

Has to be stall free, free range for us, same for beef, it's an easy cop out, but I'd like to think that the animals we eat have had a reasonable life and a 'humane' death, if that is possible.

It's a bit sad when things like this happen, ok so they were going to be killed (presumably) anyway, but still, it's not at all pleasant.

Truck carrying thousands of chickens crashes off overpass

Meanwhile I hand fed some Butcher birds this evening, not all our visiting Magpies will let me do that.

I would have thought quite the opposite - I can’t recall the last time I saw a pocket on a business shirt. What purpose do they even serve?
