G'day all,

Hopefully the topic title isn't too confusing - I just couldn't figure out a better way to summarise my question.

I've booked an AONE4 trip leaving in a couple of weeks, and my first flight is CBR-SYD on the 2-class 737. According to EF that flight has plenty of J availability but none in D, so the best I ended up with is an economy ticket booked in L.

According to Qantas' upgrade policies, assuming there is sufficient availability I should be able to request an on-departure upgrade using points as L is an upgradable class.

Obviously, however, I've paid for A class so what I really want is to get a paid D ticket and earn the extra SCs for the flight.

I'm wondering if anyone has found themselves in a similar situation and whether there is anything that can be done about it? Can I request an upgrade at the Qantas Club as per the normal (on-departure points) process, but ask that they don't take the points as I've technically already paid for a D class seat on that flight?

Any advice would be most appreciated!

You can waitlist for D and if it becomes available you travel in D. otherwise you are booked in L and will travel in economy (unless using FF points to upgrade) and will earn discount economy SCs.

Hmm... wonder why Qantas didn't mention that when I booked... Sounds like I'll give them another call and waitlist for D - I don't really mind what seat I sit in for that flight but would really like the SCs to try to reach WP this year.

Thanks for your help!
