Good value mixed class booking:

HKG-BKK TG601 B747 J
BKK-SYD TG475 B747 F

Booked online 40,000 LM plus $90 taxes.

Almost 3 hours connection in BKK, if no delays in HKG it's just enough to enjoy TG's ground services :)

Gday

MEL-BKK TG462 B777 J
BKK-KUL TG415 B777 J

Booked online 50,000 LM plus $USD90 taxes.

That is the last of my lifemiles burnt. Wont be buying anymore unless i plan to redeem them immediately. Agree with MEL Travellers post about a month ago on the other thread- tickets on alot of routes dried up all of a sudden. Very risky to stock pile points with such an opaque program. Having said that there suddenly seems to be alot of seats on TG out of MEL in the next few months.

Pele.

I managed to book 2 x J MEL to SGN yesterday for flights on Christmas day.

Hopefully all works out as there was no saver reward availability visible through krisflyer. Have received an email with the reservations code, so fingers crossed.

I did the points + pay option, as total with just points was 100k, and didn't want to be stuck with 100k if the booking failed. So brought the minimum 40k points, and paid the extra US$970 (plus taxes for ticket). Interestingly this was no really difference than buying the full 100k outright with the promotion (only $30 or so in it)

All in all will be pretty happy if it all pans out, as been searching for something close to Christmas day for last month or two.

That's an interesting issue. If you were to cancel the booking you would actually be left with 100K in your account. Any $$ spent to top up miles is not refunded in cash, it is converted to miles which sit in your account. What would happen if LM has screwed up is a good question - ie whether they completely reverse the transaction (cancel it outright) or they would refund the 100K points back.

No real reason to think it would fail, but if it did, you'd just get 100k points back anyway, not 40k + cash.

You can check to see if you have a ticket number by putting your reservation code into https://www.checkmytrip.com

If you've got one, you're pretty much golden.

Thanks BacchusMarsh. I haven't used that app before. I signed up to Check My Trip and reservation looks all good. Showing as confirmed. I like being able to view the seat map from the app as well (not that can book seats, but good to get an idea what to expect)

Was expecting the life miles booking to crash out (or tell me there was no seats), on the payment screen. But so far my 1st booking with life miles has been hassle free! Definitely a good result this late in the year booking award flights for Christmas.

Confirmed does not equal ticketed. You need to expand the passenger name section and look for ticket numbers under there. I'm sure all will be fine anyway. Krisflyer Saver award inventory will not be indicative of what is available to *A partners.

Cheers bcworld. Just checked and there is an e-ticket numbers in there as well. Feeling confident now. Good to know about the krisflyer saver visibility and partners- always good to learn something new.

UPDATE: Oh, and I just used my reservation code to log onto manage my booking on the Singapore website - and even allowed me to select seats. Didn't know I could do that either. Learning lots today :)

Success with 2 x J awards on TG for Aug 2018. CDG-BKK-SYD. Able to see e-ticket numbers and select seats on the TG site within 5 minutes of booking on LM.

Still seeing the old website interface, not the new one some people have mentioned and shared screenshots of. Simple and straightforward booking and the first time Lifemiles has accepted my Westpac Earth Black Amex card. It's previously thrown up an error on that card, but happily accepted the Earth MasterCard.

Brisbane to Porto. Routing Bne to Bkk to Brussels on Thai then Bru to Porto on Brussels airlines. All in J but very lucky to get 1400 flight from BNE as these seem to be as rare as hens teeth suddenly. Can confirm screenshot method is alive and well but takes a few days.

Life(Miles) is like a box of chocolates...

Since the recent changes it's harder to find good fares but playing with their website often leads to new discoveries of interesting bugs in the system like this one:

TLV-WAW LO B737 J

WAW-MUC LO E95 J

(19hr stopover during Oktoberfest)

MUC-BKK TG B747 F

BKK-HKG TG A380 F

Total 75,000 LM plus $US94.

AFAIK it used to be impossible to price mixed class booking on mixed airlines online for this rate.

Flights showed on TG website but couldn't select seats. Called TG and was told flights not ticketed. The next day no points or money were taken and I got few missed calls from LM. Two more days followed and still no money or points deducted and got more missed calls (they always call on awkward timing). Since I already had plan B booked with other airlines I've decided not to call back and wait to see what happens.

Four days later I got this update on MyFlights app:

Success!

A couple of weeks ago now, but it was my first attempt at booking something on the new LM booking engine. ECN (Ercan, Turkish Cyprus) - IST - CDG. 2 Pax in J on TK. The booking engine showed a number of connection options, but errored out when attempting to select flights and proceed. Screen shots sent off and after a couple of days email received with instructions to call to make payment, which took a couple of attempts to get put through to the right department, but eventually all sorted by a helpful guy and eticketed within minutes. 27k LM x 2 plus ~USD150 in taxes for two.

Earlier this year managed 2xJ tickets at the last minute SIN-TPE(SQ)-JFK(BR). 78,000 pts plus about $60 USD in taxes each. Plus $15 to cancel and redeposit the Krisflyer booking we had in economy on SQ via FRA.

BR was brilliant - my only mistake was having a full meal on the SQ sector which filled me up and couldn’t enjoy the BR 5 course meal as much as I could have. Nevertheless enjoyed the Krug

Nice booking! BR have one of the best J products, would love to fly them again but seems they only release J awards T-14 and not too many.

That's not what I have been seeing. There is loads of availability between TPE and the US on BR well into the future. However, the T-14 thing did certainly seem to apply on TPE-BNE and maybe still does.

I should have said that I'm looking for BNE to Europe or VV.
Interesting they block A330 J yet allow bookings on B777 RL.

I love LM, perfect for booking Thai trips.

Boring but i lve the place so TG475 BKK-SYD locked in yet again, using AA for the trip over as it allowed me to arrive in BKK at 1120pm so i can pass through passport control on midnight or..cop another stamp for being an overstay if i can't be bothered dawdling, giving me almost 30 full nights of "culture":p

OZ Lhr-Icn-Syd in J x1 for 85K pts + USD 320. Booked online without any issues. Can no longer select seats with phone app (or on full website) so I had to call (1300 767 234) to select seats which I just did :)
