The airport is closed from 0700 Bali time. It would be a bit hard for any airline to not cancel a flight :)

t seems JQ was one of the last in line.

Thinking now of those people who were coming home and those looking forward to a holiday, all now in tatters through via a natural cause. Was there myself a month ago.

Seems Jetstar announced that flights were suspended at 10.00am AEDT which was 7.00am Bali time. Airport was closed from 7.00am. Even if other airlines announced flight suspension earlier, doesn't seem that JQ was that tardy.

Yes. We made it by just 2 weeks although we did have a quake while there.

I was supposed to be flying home Sunday night on JQ58. During the week I changed my flight to Friday evening arriving Saturday. Received a message Sat night from a mate who flies 737s for VA that he was stranded in DPS. I was lucky in the end!

Can a person really be considered to be “stuck” there if they’re there for a work reason? Would seem to be a comfortable layover if work is picking up the accom and meals tab and an ops room elsewhere is sorting out your departure plan.

I was likewise “stuck” on Cyprus when the Eyyafjallajokull volcano closed European airspace: an extra three days in the med...

The problem is, if your flying to Bali on JQ you do not know if its on or off and many apply for holidays from work, its not fair that the flying public have to wait day by day or week by week to find out if they are going, yet there can be no guarantee of a return.

It should be mandatory that anyone going within a minimum of 2 weeks of an eruption occurring in Bali or elsewhere, should be able to cancel and receive a credit rather than move the date forward.

To be fair JQ aren’t the only ones who are canning flights out of DPS currently. I have a mate who have had Air Asia cancel on them a number of times this week.

The airlines are already doing this, Jetstar and Virgin from at least 6 weeks ago already.

Limewood, a cursory check of both JQ and VA websites show that they are both offering alternate destinations like Fiji,Thailand, even Japan, at no extra cost, or refunds for credit. And both VA and JQ were offering just the same prior to 20 October (I know this becuase i was flying to bali then). If you look back in these forums you can find links to media reports confirming it.

JQ is even allowing customers to cancel online, dont even have to ring them.

Daughter called Jetstar Sat. and was able to cancel her fights to bali today and received vouchers to use within 6 months on JQ so a happy ending.
