I need to be in Toronto in May but will be flying to New York first - looking at outbound 3rd May and Return 10th.

Looking to book Qantas premium economy in the hope of a business class upgrade. I have QP SG. In the past, I have had reasonable success with SYD-SFO upgrades but no prior data on LAX.

ADL-SYD-LAX-JFK
ADL-BNE-LAX-JFK

I would have said either via BNE or MEL, but now MEL is going B787 - I'd stick with BNE.

It's also the same aircraft that operates LAX-JFK so you're covered if there's any delays.

I would probably pick to travel via SYD outbound and via BNE on the way back for maximum chances.

Having said that, all flights on your dates are showing "I9" at present (i.e. still plenty of vacant business class seats) except for QF12 LAX-SYD on the 10th.

Thanks for the help.
I booked BNE outbound on the 3rd and return via MEL on A380 on the 10th.

Isn’t MEL-LAX going to be both A380 and B787 each day?
