I am about to sign up for the AA Platinum Challenge. I have read closely previous threads on the Challenge, but am unsure about comments regarding codesharing.
I am travelling domestically on QF Y economy flights within the 3 months period accruing approx 24,000 miles (according to the Great Circle Mapper). However, am I correct in understanding that these flights do not qualify as they are not AA flights (or codeshare flights)? If this is correct, is there a way that this domestic travel may qualify?
Thanks in advance.

You need to be booked on AA flight codes for your flights to count towards the Challenge.

Thanks. Do Qantas domestic flights have AA codes (eg Per-Syd QF566...does this have an AA code)?

Only way that you can "really" book the codeshare, is on a *ONE* fare, or on a connecting flight to an AA codeshare to the USA.

Not entirely... you could book the 5.45am flight, or the midnight special, through AA.com

AA cannot sell the codeshare AA flight number for QF-operated domestic flights unless you have arrived into or are departing from Australia on an AA flight (or codeshare). AA cannot sell it as a purely Australian itinerary.

Because of my love to take things OT

What is the minimum miles for the plat challenge? Would say a HBA - SFO or MIA (as direct as possible) do it i would i need to be imaginitive? We are thinking of going to MIA for a cruise sometime next year and would love to do it then but of course as MrsGurio and GrommetGurio and a few others will be in tow i would need to keep it as straight down the line as possible.

The other spanner in the works if the fact that i can now get there through DJ/VA. That is more attractive as it would be a bit more use to me throughout the year.

You need to earn 10000 EQPs. If you take a business class seat or B or Y class, etc, then you only need to fly 6,666 miles.

Oneway HBA-SYD-HNL won't do it. PER-SYD-HNL would. Anything to LAX/SFO would do it (in B or Y class).

As it would be return its obviuosly on the cards... We would be going to MIA most probably so that would definately get it. Shame i didnt know this last year as i would have definately got it when we went HBA - FCO!

Now just to make sure i got this correct - if i have plat does that get me into QFlounges anytime, even when not flying on them that day?

AA Plat will get you access to QF International Business lounges, Qantas Clubs and other airlines "Business Class" lounges when flying on any oneworld airline except when flying a purely domestic US itinerary.

Any time access when not flying OW is only for QF International Business Class and QPs for QF WPs.

no. 2 reasons:

1. AA Plat is the equivalent of QF gold, which only allows access when flying (their equiv of QF plat if AA Exec Plat - and you can't do a challenge for that); and

2. more importantly, when using a OW card to access another OW airline's lounge, the terms require you to be travelling on a OW flight that day.

On the up side, you will get 100% miles bonus when crediting flights to AA Plat, as opposed to 50% when crediting to QF gold.

Happy for someone to correct me, but that's how I think it works.

I would concur DTM1 but add the caveat that you dont get the status bonus crediting to AA when flying BA but on the upside you do get the bonus when crediting to AA and flying CX which you dont get on QF.

It is all very very tricky (so tricky in fact that I gave up on comparison spreadsheet - although if some changes happen I might need to fire the suckr up again).

yes, I learned about the complexities the hard way, after mistakenly choosing CX flight number from LAX to HKG instead of AA flight number - there went the 100% bonus

Won't make that mistake again !

On my last trip I had JL and BA flights but wore the point loss simply for better connections out of LHR (in respect to BA). I have a potential September DONE4 in the works which will again have LHR-LCA-LHR-xx_-SYD segments. My current plan is BA as it is a T5-T5 transfer and then probably crediting the BA flights to QF to retain QF SG - but as we all know that is a bit of a gamble ;)
