One option could be to tag bags MEL-SYD-BKK and ask EK in SYD to be re-tagged to KUL.

Problem with that is not sure if EK will retrieve bags once they are automatically transferred from syd dom to syd intl.

Good point. I've had bags re-tagged in the past but that may have been at transfer desks.

Sad isn't it, all because qantas adopted a cough policy, now i as a customer have to start threads on internet forums to figure out how i can do something as simple as checking a bag through. Sigh. :/

Qantas? You're a joke.

I had a QF SYD-BNE booking followed by another QF booking BNE-SIN-BKK on EK/3K. In SYD they refused to check bags through. I've done it this way a few times before but this lot yesterday were beyond belief. Something about a 2:35am flight next day blah blah blah.

Awful customer service. And then I asked for help regarding infant daughter not on booking and they dumped that one too after I had to go to board flight.

They won't be getting Excel nomination from me but they'll get a complaint.
