Thanks so much for the comments re QF/JQ seniority bidding etc. Very informative :)

They'll just be the same group who've been flying it out of the east coast. Training will be synchronised with the delivery of aircraft, with the training people themselves starting well ahead. There are probably some already doing it. But, removing the C&T people from the equation, you only need about 7 Capts and FOs per aircraft, so you don't need to do vast numbers per machine. The training paths will vary, almost per individual, depending upon what aircraft they are coming from, and what their background is. Ex 767 and 747 people probably two months. Airbus maybe four. The biggest training load will be behind them...replacing them on their current fleet, and then replacing the replacements. I think there can be something like 6 movements for every slot at the top end.

So with the proposed Perth - London route crew would move to Perth or can they FIFO?

Just how the routes will be built remains to be seen. If all you flew was one ultra long route, you'd go mad, plus I expect it would be appallingly hard on the body. I expect the aircraft will fly from the east coast, so presumably a pattern will be built from there. At this point, it falls into the category of 'who knows'.

Is there any chance you would be able to provide any dates and routes domestically once the aircraft arrives on this forum??

No, I'm from a different fleet, may as well be a different airline. I won't hear anything about it.

First QF 787 about to hit the production line ..

From EK413 on SSC
Was significant milestone last week with arrival of all the major assemblies for QF first 787-9 on the Dreamlifter at the Everett facility. This week the assemblies will be moved to the Assembly Line and the assembly process will start on the 3rd Aug. The aircraft is due to complete assembly and roll out of the factory at the end of August

Amazing how assembly takes only 1 month.
I was thinking exactly that!

I can't wait to see it (I note that there's a few youtube channels dedicated to Boeing first flights so I expect we'll see footage of the first takeoff/landing shortly.)

That was a great Youtube video of the assembly. Like a giant Airfix kit! Imagine the tube of glue they'd need to use! :D

Hey everyone, I was lucky enough today to tour the Boeing production facility in Everett this morning and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw HER right in front of on station 4 of the 787 assembly line (that's the last stage and the engines were just being assembled).

Looks (at least to a layman like myself) as if it's close to being finished with the nice new Qantas too on the tail but otherwise in white so it'll be off for the final painshop still. Would have loved to take pictures for you guys but unfortunately they were super strict about not taking any cameras or mobile phones into the production hall.

There's a little banner up on the front announcing the very first Qantas 787-9. I felt very lucky and seeing her just about being finished was super special indeeed!

Shame no photos. Last one I saw it was still 3rd in the line
I know- they even patted down some of us to make sure no one takes any pictures (there were some military machines visible outside as well so I understand why). Definitely much further along what I've seen yesterday!

Unfortunately aircraft type is never guaranteed!!!!
