The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Yes along with Andye's comment, I haven't read the whole thread, just the last half a dozen pages and saw plenty of references to need 5, 15 or whatever points to get Gold or Platinum prior to review period. The Virgin website states (see below) that you merely need to hit 1000 points (or 500 for gold), so say you get to 990, you can get the remaining credits after your anniversary and the moment you hit 1000 it becomes your new anniversary. The catch is however any credits that are 12 months old roll off, so you need to be earning at a faster rate than you are losing to increase the balance. And with requalifying, (where 800 SC are needed for Plat and 400 for Gold), yes that all has to be in the calendar year of your anniversary.

[h=1]Upgrade to Platinum membership[/h]We assess memberships on a daily basis to ensure you are upgraded as soon as possible.
As soon as your Status Credit balance reaches 1,000 and you have flown eight Eligible Sectors you will be automatically upgraded to Platinum membership.
[h=2]Maintaining your Platinum membership[/h]To maintain Platinum membership you will need to earn 800 Status Credits and fly eight Eligible Sectors within your 12 month benefit period.

Hi All,
I have a week in LA early August with plenty of time up my sleeve!
Anyone have any interesting ideas for some Delta runs to scoop up some decent status credits and enjoy some flying, they would like to share?
The more odd the better !!
Thank you

What's your budget? How many SCs you looking to rack up?

Hi deva22,
Budget not a problem and as many sc's I can scoop up while enjoying some flying !
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I want to make the most of the opportunity!

Without putting in any effort really (5 mins), I put together this itinerary all in C+:
https://www.google.com.au/flights/?...0DL4815,LASSLC0DL1380-SLCDEN0DL1074;sc=p;a=DL

$716AUD 225SC $3.18/SC (it's possible do better, but like I said, spent 5 mins on it).
Plus you get to see Portland, Seattle, San Fran, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City & Denver.

Thank you for that, perfect, it looks like fun!

There is plenty more to be had as well! This one you end up in Denver, so you could make your way further East then back to LA eventually. I just maxed out what google flights will allow for 'multi city' itineraries.

I'd think that you'd be best looking for AKL/(SYD or MEL)/MCY flights to get the best SC earn. Personally, I'd fly to MEL for the better SC earn on the Dom sector and ease of transfer from Intl > Dom terminal.

thanks mate.

after lots of searching for cheapest way to achieve my 80 SC I've decided to go:

ACK>MEL pre economy 60 SC 04/08
MEL>BRIS restricted economy 10 SC 04/08
BRIS>AUCK discount economy 15 SC 07/08

85 SC
$760-
but managed to buy $400- Amex credit for cheap, so ends up around $670- total

def not cheapest way to earn SC but was struggling to find a better deal/route for my dates on 04/08/17 to 07/08/17
am i doing it all right ?
cheers

Keep in mind that domestic fares as part of an international itinerary (not sure if this applies based on what you've got there?) the international SC chart applies.

thanks

Yeah if it's all on one ticket, then all SCs work off the old/international chart:

ok thanks. i think i'll book separately anyways.
but if i did it on 1 ticket for next time, how much would my AUCK>MELB>BRIS earn, a little more? 60 SC + 15 SC ? so i would get an extra 5 SC.

There are some good VA J fares to the Cook Islands at the moment. SYD-MEL-AKL-RAR can be done for $746 and earns 200 SCs. That's $3.72/SC.

Have just realised BNE-WLG is a bit of a Trans-Tasman sweet spot at 1556 miles. Return trip in cheapest economy with the partner and that's exactly 80 SCs to renew Gold (courtesy of the FlyBuys promo). Does this seem right?

Seems right to me, assuming you've set up family pooling. BNE-CHC and BNE-DUD are also over 1,500 miles.

WLG-CBR on SQ can also be a good one. It's under 1,500 miles so only earns 15 SCs in discount economy, but you can often get a Flex ticket WLG-CBR for ~$250. That earns 30 SCs.

Thanks for your reply, ah very true - will have a look at what's cheaper, can't believe I've missed this before!

The SQ service is what I tried to do last year but the timings for anyone connecting to BNE/OOL make it impossible in a day - SQ leaves too early (at least when connecting with VA) and gets in too late unfortunately :( otherwise would definitely do this

With domestic flights and SCs earned, if you booked a SYD - BNE - PER flight would it earn the SCs as for SYD - BNE + BNE to PER or does it just earn as if you did a direct SYD - PER flight

I have some vague recolletion that VA do the later rather tha something more like QF.

Trying to work out the best way to get 65 SCs once I get my Velocty Gold and 3 months to get the 80 SCs through the Coles Mastercard offer.

VA is the former, as per QF. It originally was the latter, but they changed it to the former.

To respond to the second part of your post, possibly consider a run to CNS. SYD-BNE-CNS on Freedom fare earns 20+30 and CNS-SYD on Gateway fare earns 20. I don't know how the $$s compare to what else you're looking at, but it's worth comparing, plus you get to visit CNS! Book at least 20 days in advance and use a Promo Code to get an even better price on the fare (see the Promo Code thread).
