I used to look forward to the monthly Amex offers, and quickly load them onto my card.
Dan Murphy, David Jones, Harvey Norman, Hotels, and even McDonalds - useful stuff from known stores, where there was some value both in what was being bought, and in the offer.

But for quite a while now, the offers relate to obscure and somewhat expensive stores that I've never heard of, and I haven't bothered loading an offer on my card for ages.

Has anybody seen an offer they considered useful lately?
Regards,
Renato

Short answer, no.

I agree - used to be useful offers like AAMI plus some of the ones you mentioned. Now they're all online stores for fashion and similar places (on and off line) that I'd never use in a million years.

BP and Coles Express were a couple of the useful ones.

You've expressed the description of current offers better than I have.

I missed those ones!

I haven't had my AMEX for very long but I haven't had any offers.
Strange that you aren't getting email notifications.
I also get the offers at the bottom of the page in my on-line account.

Also you can get those and a few more offers when you sign into Amex Connect at
https://www.americanexpress.com/au/network/shopping.html
regardless of whether you have a card direct from Amex, or from a bank.

Renato

Most of the best promos come out late in the calendar year in the build up to Xmas.

It has always been so. They used to be point promos (oh those were the good ole days! Much easier to do point runs on and often more possible to take benefits from one business and use in another) and in recent years have been mainly cash back.

I fully expect that 2017 will be like the previous years. The last third of the year is always the best third with Amex offers.

The offers in 2017 are not as good or frequent as 2016 in my view. But I wouldn't call them bad either.

I've happily taken advantage of the WHSmith (spend $75 get $25 back) to purchase opal cards and have the cash refunded to my bank account recently. As well as the Coles Express (spend $40 get $10 back) offer.

Harvey Norman, BP and David Jones offers earlier in 2017 were also generous.

But I must say I am looking forward to smallshop in November.

W H Smith!!! Thanks Dr Ralph! I hadn't been able to find a suitable way to use this offer and you've provided it in the nick of time! Assume there's no problem with using the same card at the same merchant twice in the one day to get the 2x $25 cash back? Only time I will be near a W H Smith will be the last day of the offer.

With that offer although it can be used twice it needs to be two different brands. So could be Co-Op + WHSmith for example. But not 2 x WHSmith.

I'm not sure if it's different because I have the qantas ultimate or not.

When I first logged in there was a David Jones one but since then nothing.

I keep an eye out on ozbargain.com.au regularly add they are posted there a lot.

Thanks. I haven't been round long enough to have noticed that, especially as I've often been overseas at that time.
Looking forward to some good offers.

Thanks. I had to go and Google "WHSmith", as it has never registered in my head before.

I think the wine gods hates us or something, no signs of Bocaccio, Winestar or Langton's offers. Uncle Dan's wouldn't be bad either as I need to stock up on WISH gift cards.

The most recent offer of spend $50 get $20 back at up to three stores out of a huge number, including Myers and David Jones, looks pretty good for those who can take advantage of it.

As best I can make out, the offers applies only to stores in CBD Melbourne where I live. I haven't checked the applicable stores in Sydney.

Unfortunately, I'm not going into Melbourne any time soon to try redeem the offers.

We might start getting some good offers from now to the end of the year. Last year, this was the first more generous offer that was followed by all the good supply we got heading into year end.

Not sure I agree.

This year has been a very poor year and I only have 1 card with no supplementary cards. By this time last year there were 2-3 Qantas promotions which are useful to me as I need to book flights regularly.

I've not had a single BP offer.

BP. Was available this to all if you were quick enough as it was an open offer (See Ozbargain). I like many missed out this time as it filled quickly. You were similarly to slow off the mark too.

Very poor year? Personally I have had quite a number of offers so far in 2017 both targeted and public ( ie The Agoda Offer is still open) and so I would see 2017 as pretty much on par with other years. I have not totalled up what I have saved this year so far but it is well beyond the card fees. Shop Small is about to start again too.

I think some seem to expect that Amex will just continually have very generous offers. They have not in past years, and so why should they this year too?
