I have only noticed it today land hence I am commenting on it. If you want to see and read cough then go an buy smutty mags just let's not see it in publicly trading companies that we buy shares in and trust with our welfare

A printed ad for a dating site/ap is cough? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

Unless QF staff are dragging you into the toilets to be smutty with you, I doubt your "welfare" is at risk.

Gay, hetro, bi, who the heck cares - worry about your own marriage, your own sex life and leave other grown ups alone.

Hopefully your kids are exposed to more open minded people than just you.

Has anyone got a photo of the offending page - otherwise I will have to wait for my Sunday morning flight before I can get all outraged!

Well then – I boarded my Sunday morning flight, and eagerly sort the offending article.

I had only turned the page when I was overcome with instant disgust when I saw the photo. This feeling just got worse as I attempted to read all the text. It was horrible! I do not know which upset me most – the photo or the word content. In that photo there is a perverse, evilness in those ostensibly “smiling” eyes. Truly not an image appropriate for small children!! How dare you Qantas!! And the words contain many many dangerous and filthy concepts. These were apparent to me even though the writer tried to conceal the true messages with slippery wording.

But enough about the “Message from the CEO” – that is off topic.

When I eventually found the gay add I saw it was clean, very inconspicuous, and actually very tastefully and discretely done.

But juddles, you forgot to mention that it was "shoved down your throat". ;)

Is that a service QF offers? It's not one of those things you have to select when finalising your ticket online is it?

Must look out for that.

:p

Maybe QF can team up with the recent Northern Ireland ad campaign to come up with a travel deal?

Is that a golf ball in his pocket or should we all be disgusted by the cough... is it cough if its only same sex or can the hetros get a bit of the cough ad action as well?

Here you go. Imagine how offended and disgusted the OP is going to be now, having to see such filth again

I always read the QF magazine and have never noticed the ad.I do remember the Margaret Court article but just turned the page.
I guess a case can be made for any dating site ad being inappropriate for an airways magazine but what a trivial matter.
On the other hand CEOs involving themselves in social issues should realise that it is a two edged sword-currently some Islamic groups are calling for a boycott of Starbucks because of the CEO championing SSM.

As I said a trivial issue. What has upset me more on AFF is Bigpetebrown's TR on Brazil. The fact that gay couples feel they can't openly express their love for each other in Australia is so sad. That should be a universal right.

So this is OPs troll version of cough? Dude. You need to spend some time on Christian Mingle, lots of married folk over there looking to hook up.

As a P1 I get some smiles but no cough. I feel I will have to call the P1 line and complain :/

well they *are* the "Special Services Team" - it just depends on what your definition of "Special Services" are ???

Or is SST now Smutty Service Team?

yes, this is degrading rapidly.. guilty as charged your honour

Was on a flight to Melb and was reading the inflight mag, noticed a full page add for gay discerning MEN to be introduced to each other. It was an introduction service add. It's disgusting, if qantas is so conservative. Why do they not have intro services for Maddison or xx_porn intro services ?? But it is ok to GLBC intro services.
Is that you Tony? Or maybe its George Pell?

I wonder what Alan Joyces business partners from fundamental islamic nations think about his campaigning. Or worse the radicals in that country. Its also rather hypocritical for Joyce to conduct business with the national airline of a country that crimiinalises homesexuality, but bans a guy for throwing a pie in his face.

They have been openly expressing their love for decades. I agree, the whole issue is trivial, politics should forget the whole thing and carry on with important issues.
Alternatively, you could announce publicly like a Margaret Court that you you won't fly on Qantas due to your bigoted beliefs?
Margaret Court didnt say anything that could be construed as bigoted.

Sorry? Which Margaret Court are you referring to? The one who had been a great Australian tennis player made extremely bigoted and extreme medieval religious based comments.

I don't think he could be referring to this Margaret Court, or does he think this is not "bigoted", or maybe he doesn't read, listen or watch things: Hear the audio quotes ...

"When asked a question on same-sex marriage, Court compared homosexual rights activists to Hitler and said children who identified as transgender were being influenced by the devil. “That’s all the devil . . . but that’s what Hitler did and that’s what communism did - got the mind of the children. And there’s a whole plot in our nation, and in the nations of the world to get the minds of the children."
Court also said homosexuality would destroy a person’s life.

“We’re there to help them (gay people) overcome. We’re not against the people,” she said.

“They’re human beings and 92 per cent, they say in America, have either been abused in some form sexually or emotionally at an early age for them to even be this way."

I see this as very different things.

EK is doing business with QF (and vice versa). Just as much as QF is not any one person (eg: Joyce as the CEO) neither is EK going to represent the nation it serves (yes, I know it is Government owned by the ruling family).. putting EK to one side for the moment, the agreement is between them and QF, not them and EK.. Their opinion of the CEO and his private life are, one would hope, irrelevant. In fact, I think there would be mass outrage if a company refused to do business with another because of the views or opinions of a leader of that company (and also note that QF's Board are the final word on such far ranging ventures). It's not Joyce personally doing business with EK, it is the company he runs as CEO that is and his part in alliance decisions would be, one would hope, made on purely Business grounds (and again, he is not the sole voice).

On the other hand, the pie thrower made a *personal and planned attack* on Alan Joyce specifically for his private life and views (heck, he wasn't even talking about SSM issues at the breakfast function in question).

In sports parlance he "went the man and not the ball" (and yes, that is a deliberate pun for those seeking it :D )

and AJ did not personally ban the pie-face but the official word was that the action was considered as an assault on an employee of QF (and at that breakfast he was speaking as QF CEO, not as Alan Joyce private citizen, so he was there in a work role) and thus the man was banned from QF as you would imagine anyone assaulting a member of flight or ground crew would be too.

the direct correlation there to the earlier comment about Alan Joyce doing business with EK would be specifically for him to say he refuses to do business with EK because of the policies of the UAE.

One is Business, and one was very personal.

I don't see how there is anything hypocritical here.
