Was on a flight to Melb and was reading the inflight mag, noticed a full page add for gay discerning MEN to be introduced to each other. It was an introduction service add. It's disgusting, if qantas is so conservative. Why do they not have intro services for Maddison or xx_porn intro services ?? But it is ok to GLBC intro services.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

That advertisement has been appearing in the Qantas Magazine for months now, if not years.
I suggest turning the page if one finds the advertisement offensive. ;)

If I am understanding you correctly, the official Qantas magazine has a full page add for what you say is a gay and lesbian introduction service? That does seem a bit inappropriate in a magazine that is the only reading material provided and thus obviously read by children.
I am not a prude but I personally don't think an inflight magazine is the place for any such adds, but I don't care if it is for gays or any other group.

First and last post from this member I suppose.

Why not flick the page and not let it ruin your day

A couple of things;
1. It's 2017
2. Can you explain more about Qantas being conservative? They have a float in Sydney Mardi Gras, they used pride decals on a A330 recently. I think they even used the hastag #gay330
3. I'm sure all advertisements go through a vetting procedure. An introduction service/company is hardly advertising inappropriate material. I'm sure they'd also allow advertisements for companies offering hetrosexual introductions.
4. What on earth does GLBC stand for? I think you meant GLBTIQ?

Your lack of understanding on all fronts makes me feel you have a lack of awareness re; GLTBIQ issues generally and equality. You're a first time poster, your profile doesn't say where you are based. If you're in Perth, I'd be happy to meet up and have a chat/discussion.

I have only noticed it today land hence I am commenting on it. If you want to see and read cough then go an buy smutty mags just let's not see it in publicly trading companies that we buy shares in and trust with our welfare

Perhaps a pie in the face would make you feel vindicated?

WAIT!!! Damn you Blackswan - my popcorn isn't even ready yet!!

I am not in Perth. GLBC Gay and Lesbian Community. Having flown qantas for close to 20 years I am yet to see a hetro sexual add.
thanks for voicing your opinion but care very little for what you stated.

in my opinion it's wrong to have that in a mag, you can disagree....

How is this any different from any other dating ad? Which I'm sure that I've seen in the QF (and other airline) Magazine

An advertisement for an introduction service is hardly cough. But, I feel this argument will go nowhere, so I'm going to leave it at that.

As an aside, if you're looking for a 'conservative' airline in Australia, you won't get far. Qantas (who own Jetstar) and Virgin (who own Tiger) both support marriage equality and GLBTIQ equality. As this pretty much leaves you with no other options, you could always try Greyhound - oh wait, they support GLBTIQ equality too, as evidenced during the recent Margaret Court debate.

Happy travels.

With an opinion such as that, you are well on your way to be shot down in flames.

Guess you don't want to look at these sites then, Some Australian services and leading businesses.

An advert for a companionship and dating service is NOT smutty just because you are homophbic, narrow minded

or don't agree with Equal Rights for all Humans.

..... I suspect the voices of intolerance against the OP's point of view will be loud and strident (although I am wondering if its a leg-pull)....

I agree.

In any case, this makes yet another interesting case where human nature does not allow people to debate a specific issue without getting all caught up in their own agendas.

My understanding is that the OP dislikes any adds for adult meeting things - not a particular opinion only on gay things. If that is his (her? transgender?) position then I completely agree - I do not think this is a necessary sort of theme add for a magazine that is forced on children.

If he (she? the other thing?) is expressing a particular outrage because it is a gay thing, and that he (she? the other thing?) would be OK if it was for "normal" persuasions, then I completely disagree with it.

That does seem a bit inappropriate in a magazine that is the only reading material provided and thus obviously read by children.
Oh for goodness sakes, most children's literature contains themes about "adult relationships"; Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Rapunzel - a kiss from their prince and... Kids understand the notion of two adults falling in love and "living happily ever after", there is nothing perverse about it!

I'll have to keep my eye's open for this "cough" - last time I saw these ads, they were pretty typical, with not a flash of skin (of *any* kind) in sight. In which case how does an advertisement for same-sex dating, equal "cough"??

The dictionary describes cough thus (and I'm pretty sure the ad doesn't match this meaning in *any* way):

cough |smʌt| noun3 [ mass noun ] obscene or lascivious talk, writing, or pictures: cough, in his view, is far from being harmless cough.
