Apologies in advance for most likely a stupid question....I recently booked a business ticket on a Qantas flight code-shared with Emirates and was wondering which lounge to use?
I assume check-in is at Emirates desk but that made me wonder which lounge I go to....

If its a QF flight number, this should appear on the BP and you use the QF lounge. Just be mindful that sometimes, the operating airline will put their flight number on the BP they issue. Then you would use the EK lounge :) .

In some cases you can use either lounge, and the choice is for the passenger based on their preference. In MEL for example you'd skip the QF lounge and head to the EK one.

I'm flying out of Sydney - Now that I look I actually received two itineraries, one from Qantas and one from Emirates.
The Qantas itinerary has a QF flight number, the Emirates a EK flight number  potentially could I choose either lounge?
If so, I'd welcome any recommendations :) (I have been to Qantas lounge before but not Emirates).

Because of the partnership between Qantas and Emirates there is also shared lounge access. It doesn't really matter if you are on a QF or EK flight number, you can use whichever lounge you want to. This includes being on a QF flight number and being able to use the EK lounge (that is, you don't need an EK flight number).

There are exceptions... the lounge sharing agreement is limited to routes where the partnership is active... so you can't use the EK lounge if flying QF to the USA... because there's no QF/EK tie-up on that route.

There is no comparison between QF's business class offerings and the Emirates' offering. EK is by far the clear winner in terms of amenity and food.

In SYD, I was in your position going to CHC, I paid visits to both the QFi SYD J lounge and also after that, the EK SYD lounge.
Comparing the 2, I would spend more time in the EK lounge, personally.
On other trips, have also done QF's JC and spent time solely in the QFi SYD J lounge, and sorely missed the EK lounge's middle serve yourself sandwich bar!
Save some stomach space for the 380's on board J flying bar though, if they have that prawn and mango coughtail on your flight, they are delish.

For everything prior to the flight - throw the QF itinerary away!

It is useless with respect to seat-choice etc. Choose your seat on EK, Online check-in with EK, Physical check-in with EK. Choice of Lounges ... the only time you'd use QF Lounge in Syd is if you have access to the FLounge (which it doesn't sound like you have).

The only time you may need the QF itinerary is if there are any issues afterwards with points/SC allocation (I've probably flown 20+ sectors on QF codeshares on EK in the last 6 months and never had a problem).

Regards,

BD

If you have any choice at all go directly to the EK lounge. Don't both with QF lounge at all.
