Good time to book reward stays at the moment.

With the new points and pay option starting I have noticed reward stays have dropped in value with most hotels. I was able to book a few nights in Sydney for 27 000pts and 5 nights at HSW in June for 150 000pt.

Noticed some hotels in New York for 30,000 pts, for the four night stay I was booking!

Well until I went to actually book ... whilst night 1 was 30,000 pts, whilst nights 2-4 were 70,000 pts each.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

4 x 1 nite stays??

Hilton Pattaya is an interesting one.

Used to be 40,000 Hhonors points/night so 5 nights should have be 160,000 Hhonors points? Checked yesterday and is now 36,000 Hhonors points/night on front page for early July but when I click through the total for 5 nights is 168,000 Hhonors points.

I just wish these loyalty programs were simple to use.

If there is an asterisk next to the points amount it will mean the rate changes for some of the nights, just click on the rate details to see which ones. With the new system the points are calculated on the room rate so if one night is dearer than the rest it will increase that night.

Yes it is a bit devious though (either be design or by lack of programming), as even though it has asterisk next to it, if paying cash (not doing an award using points), it calculates an average rate per night and displays that. If doing award, it displays the first night rate only.

In the nights I was looking at, the average cash rate shows as $245, which includes nights @ $119, $275, $294 & $294 when you click through. The points rates displays as 30,000 whereas applying the same approach as it does for cash it should show a rate of 60,000 points (1 x 30K + 3x 70K).
