Flying this beauty FRA-IAD in a few weeks, in J.

I'm normally an upper deck guy, but on the 800 that cabin is almost the same number of seats as the main J cabin on the main deck (and 2 rows fewer downstairs).

Anyone flown this craft, and merits of upper/lower deck?

I don't suppose they would disembark the upper deck as well as the lower deck at IAD?

Upper deck on the 747-8 is an emergency exit only. It's can't accept an airbridge or stairs. Main deck has better headspace compared to the upper deck.

If flying solo, the centre pair of J seats have slightly more leg space / wider-table between them than the window pairs. I chose this so I could have uninterrupted aisle access too.

Thanks both; yes, I've booked an middle column, aisle seat downstairs. Seems like they sometimes unload by bus at IAD, so if I'm one of the first off at least I'll be on the first bus to immigration!

The last time I flew LH J was on their then new A380s, which they fitted with their even then, old J - sloping seats and almost zero storage space. I said at the time that I wouldn't fly with them again until I was guaranteed a flat bed, and now is the hour!
