Am I the only one who is looking forward to the new system?!

I'd rather spend less cash if possible when booking award tickets.

I am, but only for certain redemptions. The old system was great, but the new one certainly has some benefits too. Saving money is generally a good thing; yeah!?? :)

I haven't worked out which redemptions would be better. Hoping maybe even economy redemptions might become more worthwhile now that the cash component will reduce.

I'm still in collecting and learning phase, will start redemptions in a couple of months

Good point. It's just USD30/person to cancel and full mile credit.

The revenue airfare for the one-way Flexi Saver is ~THB17,000. I assume I can add daughter to award booking and pay roughly 10% revenue airfare.

Johnk,

I added an infant to an award booking yesterday and it came it at slightly more than 10% of the adult fare. It is 10% of the base adult fare and then they added on the YQAD which was MYR46. You should cost it out before you call on the SQ website by trying to book a revenue adult and infant then click 'booking summary' then click 'cost more details' and it splits it out by passenger.

As an fyi when i added an infant on to a MH Enrich award fare in the last week the price when i called up was actually cheaper than when i priced it through the MH website.

Pele.

If I try to book a revenue fare for 1 adult and then try to book a revenue fare for adult and infant would that give me the likely difference? Then I add on 10%. Even if say they add on 15%-20% is still relatively cheap for what I am trying to achieve.

Well having recently booked MEL-LHR in First Class for 2 pax with the new cost now applying I thought I would compare:

So is an extra 70,750 points = 35,375 points/person with a saving of $750.00 or $375.00 pp.

So

OLD

2 Adults

225,250 KrisFlyer miles+ AUD 924.38

NEW

2 Adults

296,000 KrisFlyer miles+ AUD 172.38

Nah mate, there's always two sides to the coin.

Whilst I am points poor, there are plenty of people who are points rich. I can certainly see how the reduced fees are a win and the increase in points needed is reasonable.

I called this morning regarding issues with award and found out taxes for infant are ~THB2120 which are roughly 12.5% of total adult fare so not too bad.

I think in particular that the relatively short flights to Asia will be real winner for some in economy now.

Also families wanting to fly to Europe in Y can now do so.

Waitlist LAX-ICN-SIN cleared today (for January). Cancelled confirmed PE flight, Miles redeposited and LAX flight confirmed at old award pricing with 3 hours to spare (9pm in LA on 22nd).

Wow.

yeah the "short" flight to singapore + another ~4hr flight to Colombo or Delhi/Calcutta for me is fine in economy.
This way I can also spoil the inlaws and my parents with tix :D
With a ~6month old by the time we travel, I do not want to be "that" guy who brings a baby to business class :p

My wife keeps asking when we can go business class again. I booked her business class on Sunday but can see she is keen on the premium experience. :p

We have a 6 month old daughter. I wouldn't worry about bringing her to business class. My main concern is spoiling her which I don't want to do. Economy is fine for dad, economy is fine for daughter.

Yeah I too would like to spoil the wife in business, oh well, will have to wait till we go to Europe or similar.

Yeah I'm the same, don't want to spoil them from so early on, I had to work hard, now, so do they... well once he grows up :D

No way! It's about enjoying the travel as much you can - with child or without ;)

tried to do a dummy change of date online today, and it's requesting for the extra 15% miles..is that supposed to be the case ??

I'd be interested to know how that works, as I can't imagine they'd have a mechanism for processing a refund of the overpaid YQ online.

I still get the following:
