QF "Seat Shifting"

Re: Qantas Removed Seat Allocation from Boooking

Nope - I had checked in online and actually had printed out boarding pass with our correct seats. We would have been pinged at the gate if we hadnt spotted it in the lounge and they made damn sure they fixed it.

Had they intended to allocate your booked seats to AJ and travelling companion?

Slightly OT but in a similar vein they've been known to want to help with routing. I (quite deliberately, it was a JASA) had an indirect routing ( I think it was MEL-SYD-ASP) and I got an email from a QF staffer saying he was ready and prepared to put me on a non-stop MEL-ASP - just say the word. :). I said thanks but definitely no thanks. I actually think all that proactive 'help' stuff is really good, with the proviso that they 'ask' before they 'do'

My seat shifting event happened in Business QF 1 to London when approaching my seat. It was occupied by. It turned out by a invalid on medications. Long story short should have listen to previous advice from list members to have a crew member resolve the issue. It turned out he was sat there by a crew member by mistake, it was resolved by seating me elsewhere and new bed made up as my bedding pillow had been used. Not a great thing to have when all your pillows had been sat on.

I'm now obsessively checking my upcoming seat allocations twice a day because of this thread :p

Shifted from 2C to 1C this morning after checking in via phone yesterday.

As mentioned, myflightsapp is good for Amadeus bookings - generally get emailed alerts within 6 hours.

Of course, that may not help on day of departure.

I think someone just basically messed up. In the end we got our seats back - there was no one in the window bulkhead and a young guy in the aisle one.

But we had our boarding passes for the correct seats and had flown from Adelaide to Melbourne and sitting in F Lounge when I was alerted to the change because I am OC and for some reason checked into the App. When we walked into the lounge we got a text to say flight was delayed. Needless to say it took all of our time in the lounge to get it sorted so the ambience was lost on me. Seats were selected months ago when the DSC offer was on.

So up until 2 hours pre departure we were fine. So save the OC for later. I guess :p

Oh geez. Hate bulkhead. Same thing again hey? I wanted to 'dislike' this.

Re: Qantas Removed Seat Allocation from Boooking

Used to happen to me quite a lot when I had pre-allocated 23B, 24D etc on 767 so I started pre-allocating 23J/K, 24J/K etc so if there was an aircraft substitution I wouldn't have a seat pre-allocated on new config.

Re: Qantas Removed Seat Allocation from Boooking

There was a time ~ 8-10 years ago when VA and occasionally QF would change my seat to row 23,24 on the 737s.But it was to put me with the unallocated kids.I obviously had a reputation for helping them.but then things became PC so instead of being put there I had to suffer exit rows.:(

Re: Qantas Removed Seat Allocation from Boooking

Some strange things can happen. On one flight CBR-SYD I had selected exit row for Miss FM, Mr FM and myself. We were all WP at the time. On getting to the gate we were told our seats had changed and I said "hope it is still exit row," so she did some fiddling and gave us boarding passes. There was a whole pile of discarded boardng passes next to the scanner. We ended up with Miss FM and I in our original seats (same row no, so not aconfig change), with Mr FM behind and a stranger next to me. She seemed friendly and I am chronically nosey, so I asked if she had requested the seat and what her status was, She said she hadn't and was bronze - she had just been given a new pass when she boarded. Then the 2 people next to Mr FM chimed in and said they had tried to put them in the exit row, but they had refused as they felt they were too old. I think they were silver. So the six of us had a good chat half the way to Sydney, but couldn't make any sense of it or why they would split people travelling together and move a WP. The only thing we could think of was they were trying to sit some other people together and ended up getting themselves confused and making a whole lot of unnecessary changes....

Last Sunday MrP and I were on separate PNR but we had been able to select the same row with a gap in the middle which was because MrP WP status had blocked me from sitting next to him. I went through first and got the red light and ping and wasn't allowed to board and had to go to the desk. Mmmm. But then MrP boarding pass also pinged with red light. He joined me at the desk. Different booking so why just us? The desk then issued same seats and of course the middle seat was occupied. They couldn't know we were related by the PNR.

Children cannot occupy an exit row. Same issue for those who are older.

[h=3]Note the following requirements and additional conditions for exit row seats:[/h]Requirements
In order to sit in an exit row seat, you must:

  • be at least fifteen years old;
  • not be travelling with someone who needs your assistance in an emergency e.g. an infant or child unless there is another guardian seated elsewhere with the child;
  • not require the use of an infant/extension seat belt;
  • be willing and able to move quickly and assist crew in an emergency situation;
  • be willing and able to listen to a briefing, check outside conditions and follow instructions given in English by crew;
  • be physically able to reach, open, lift and throw out an emergency exit up to twenty (20) kgs;
  • not be travelling with a service dog;
  • not have an amputated or prosthetic limb;
  • not have a visual impairment that is not corrected by use of spectacles/glasses/contact lenses;
  • not have a hearing impairment that is not corrected by use of a hearing aid/device*; and
  • not utilise any part of the aircraft door (or its surrounding area) to rest your feet, or any other personal item(s).

Yes I know that - it doesn't explain why they moved 3 WPs all older than 20 at the time and younger than 60 out of their carefully chosen seats and tried to move even older people in and then a random bronze.....Miss FM still loves to travel with us, in spite of being quite old now (as long as we pay for everything :) )

  • Earlier this week the system allocated exit rows (row 14 upper deck) for my kids on QF12/16 (JFK-LAX-BNE)

    My youngest will be just under 15 when we fly. I know the rule so changed them to row 15 sitting behind us :D not sure why QF would actively allocate a seat knowing she can't sit there :confused:

I thought Miss referred to a young child.

Of course, that may not help on day of departure.

I have just started using this. Set up a couple of test runs by changing seats myself to see if alert worked. Waited 3 hours and got nothing. But works fine if I do a manual sync. I guess 6 hours is better than nothing, and it's free.

This doesn't apply to "exit row" seats where pax are not required to operate them (such as UD 744 versus 13/14 on a 738).
