Shoes!?! ... and other accessories

Mr FM likes quite "out there" shoes, but even he felt these were umm - I think "hideous" was one of the words he used....

So doubly a shame that drron did not purchase. He would cut quite a figure in the surgery in them :)

(sorry drron, I'm sure your taste is much better)

So I had some spare time on my hands today in George Street and this happened 01483349249.jpg

It's not as awful as it looks, two repairs, a replacement luggage tag and one new bag. Told Shrek it was some investments and he nearly fell over :D

I got a lovely new accessory yesterday :D

What what what????? Sneaking this in a shoe thread?

It says accessories too :p

Well, yes, but there are accessories and then THE ACCESSORY.

I was sort of getting hints on some other threads, but I see this one is where the action is!

Surely TomV is "THE ACCESSORY" ??

It was here or the wine thread :D

I would have voted for the wine thread, but that's just me.

And to keep on topic, I'd just like to announce that I am not wearing shellac.

I preferred the brown bags classier they were .... but still nice

Last Thursday bought a 14 carat yellow gold with 1 carat diamond (3 stone swirl pattern) bridal ring for wife from Michael Hill. Not as much as some here spend but still quite expensive.

At same time bought 50cm 10 carat yellow gold Figaro necklace for $599 but originally marked at $939. Wife liked the necklace and we didn't really shop around and I trust Michael Hill.

Went to Westfield Chermside yesterday for a lazy afternoon. Saw Shiels jewellers and looked at 9 carat Figaro necklace priced at $899 but reduced to $399 on sale. Weighs 7.03gms. Solid or hollow? Should be solid. Why that much cheaper? How much does our necklace weigh? Too many thoughts on my mind and the main one is "ripped off".

Went to Michael Hill and explained situation. We bought at Indooroopilly but they can look up receipt there at Chermside. How much does necklace weigh? 5 gms. Why such a difference in price? The $200 does not justify difference between 9 carat and 10 carat. Asked for refund and got it. What I didn't realise was the necklace we bought is hollow!

Went to almost every jewellery shop at Chermside and every shop except for Wallace Bishop has a sale. We can get the 50cm Figaro 9 carat chain weighing between 6gms and 7.6gms for <$399. Many hollow Figaro chains for <$199. Don't want hollow chains. Need to decide which one.

Now wife questioning quality of bridal ring.

This is really disappointing. I don't know much about jewellery and I trusted Michael Hill.

Sometimes when you buy something like this you just take it on the value and not go searching for bargains. If you were happy with the price at the time then just leave it unless it was an illegal transaction. Sales are sales. Honestly, I'd never question the $ value of a special ring my husband had given me. That isn't the purpose.

My wife didn't question. I did. Maybe a mistake to question but I hate being ripped off when I don't know much about what I am buying.

Isnt he the handbag? :p

He is a reputable jeweller JohnK. Sometimes that means a higher cost. Don't try second guessing now - let it go and enjoy it. (Sorry - misread as I thought your wife was questioning value).

Curiosity has been my weakness for a long time.

Have found 50cm 9 carat gold Figaro necklace weighing 9.7gms. Seems like each store sources chains from different suppliers.

Now wife questioning quality of bridal ring. l.

I feel your pain JohnK.
My husband purchased in Cairo a scarab beetle pendant set with diamonds for my birthday. Came out just over $2,200.00 (yes, he did haggle.....)
Will not know the quality and if real diamonds until we get it valued next week.
You sometimes just have to go with your gut feeling that this purchase is OK, the shop was a jewellery shop inside a shopping mall opposite the Hilton Hotel, so not in a dodgy area.
I know I will feel much more comfortable once I get the valuation done.

I thought that too, I have a million of them and the boxes. But the new ones are definitely growing on me, I love the blue handles.

The Blue handles make all the difference don't they:!:

John just as with flying when you buy jewellery research is important. This is something mrsdrron is good at and led us to finding her jeweller in Bangkok. She is definitely not the cheapest in Bangkok but must be close to the best value.
With gold Asia is by far the best value. You might not get Italian gold but their knockoffs are difficult to tell apart. But you are paying the current gold price plus a fee for manufacture which they will tell you up front. And without asking they usually weigh it before you ask.

I think the ring is ok. Looks and feels quite nice. The ring is on sale in their current catalogue. Michael Hill Roselands says no further discount and cannot resize up from current size N to wife's size O. Michael Hill Indooroopilly gave us a further discount off sale price equivalent to lifetime care plan but we only added on 3 year care plan and said the ring can be resized 2 sizes up to P.

There's a bit of inconsistency there. And then to find out we paid a premium for a hollow necklace makes it worse.
