I just flew Scoot on the Dreamliner Perth-Singapore return. First time on Scoot and first time on the Dreamliner so here’s an abridged TR, more of a summary and a few tips really.

Check in at Perth. What a dog’s breakfast, we had Carry on only but still had to queue for over an hour (Why ?) to get our boarding passes. There is no OLCI at Perth. Come on Perth Airport, this is 2016, get your act together.

The plane was 90 minutes late due to late arrival so that didn’t help. Finally onboard a full plane. Now I don’t fly much Y by choice and certainly not over 6 hours but at 5 hours this was worth a shot. The seats were cramped and lacking in bum padding, the 787 does not have air jets which I missed. The button for the reading light is where you rest your elbow and he guy next to us managed to turn his on and off several times in his sleep.

The lighting is quite nice as are the electronic shades and overall the plane seemed very quiet. Service, quality of food and beverage (purchased) was all as expected from a LCC so no surprises.

On the return leg, I did a bid for ScootBiz which came through. For not a lot of money, you get a checked in luggage allowance or extra carry on, priority boarding, reasonable seat, a meal and 1 drink (same as you buy in Y) and streaming entertainment to your own device. The food and drink were average at best, a small choice of movies and the service same as above but probably worth it for the seat alone. I’d rate it as PE- compared to a full service carrier.

So all in all, a case of get what you pay for I think. New planes, if you are not used to a LCC, maybe stump up for ScootBiz up front. They come and go from Singapore T2 which is a bonus.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Then don't complain. If you wanted comfort, spring for their business class.

They did via the upgrade.

Despite the name ScootBiz and Jetstar Business are very much a Domestic Business, or International PE product. Only Air Asia has a lie flat bed.

That said Jetstar's Business catering is well above Scoot's.

I went as low as possible, $120 each

I honestly think that's a steal! Flying this in Feb, part voucher, part cash. I'm really looking forward to it. Red eye so should be asleep most of it. I'm planning on using priority pass for lounge and food but not sure what lounge food is like so we might be safer eating somewhere nice in the main terminal prior to boarding.

Yes I thought it was a bargain. Certainly 'fuel up' pre flight.
