Why can't seats be changed during online check-in?

I find this particularly annoying when flying JQ domestic. Once seats are allocated (either paid for or as part of the bundle), it can never be changed even during online check-in and seats further up front are available. Why??? :mad:
 
I don't know the answer to this, but you can change the seat after check-in by calling Jetstar.
 
you used to be able to, i imagine they changed it to stop people like us avoiding paying for upfront seats...

You could always double check that you have the best seat allocated in MMB before you start the OLCI process.

Exactly, there's comment on that very thing in another thread from when it became so about year ago.
