Alternatively have your packs of cutlery in a separate non chilled container. You add one pack of cutlery to each tray before you dish it out. Less work for the kitchens than having to neatly place one set of cutlery on each tray.

And where are you going to store that in the catering truck sent to the plane? And ensure it gets onto the plane with the trolleys. I understand your point, but just can't see the logistics working.

I think I was chilled in my response but I fear receiving a luke warm reception, bad puns intended.

You're right, this is totally FWP and I can't help but face palm right now.

no - it's not a FWP - it's an issue for any airline passenger who has an issue with cold cutlery - first world or third world. 'Third world' passengers still have the same right to enjoyment for things they pay for.

I guess the same as Qantas carries economy cutlery to the plane - separate from the meal tray. In economy the cutlery is in a plastic bag, in business and first it's wrapped in a napkin. That trolley doesn't have to be chilled, or if it is, you take out the box with the cutlery once on board.

With respect, it is. Are you free over Christmas? Come with me to a third world country. You can choose between POM or MAS in PNG. Chilled cutlery = horse sheet. As I mentioned previously wear "mittens", problem solved.

Totally agree - it gives me the irrits too!
Assumed they just came out of the refrigerated trolley.
Not quite as bad as chilled red wine, often served in Y

I like cold cutlery. There is something tactile (maybe not the right word) about it that I don't experience often (except when maybe rummaging around in the freezer). It always reminds me of the time when my MacBook was delivered and the courier had obviously left it in the van overnight - it was an icy slab of machined perfection. Strange I know.

** EDIT **

I'm flying QF1 F in a couple of weeks. When the courtesy call comes the day before I'll ask if they can extra chill my cutlery for me :)

Why is the cutlery and the butter ice cold while the beer and wine is Luke warm. iMO, get the priorities right LOL

a) Keep the napkin/cutlery sets in a non-refrigerated cart so they will be at room temperature; or
I don't think any carts are refigerated. Actually, there is little rerigeration of any type on many passenger planes.

They should have plate warmers installed in the galley for both cutlery and crokery

Haven't noticed the cutlery issue really, butter is solved as a previous poster notes, but the icy cold red wine gets to me too...

We'll there must be some dry ice or something similar in the cold carts as how else can they keep everything cold for the second meal service on a long haul flight?
