Hi All,

I'm going on a business trip across Asia at the end of the month but my company will only pay for economy seats. I'll end up in KL on 28th Oct for my last meeting which will probably finish after lunch. I'm looking for ways to get from KL back to Perth in business class which I'll fund myself. I feel like a bit of a treat and by buying J tickets I'll earn some valuable SC's along the way. I can probably expense the cost of an economy seat direct back to Perth so at least I'll claim some back but I'm not too worried about the $$'s. Having said that, I can't go too crazy!

I've been searching the QF website but I'm not really finding much, I don't fancy a QF J seat from SIN to Perth, doesn't seem worth it on a 737. Also the website isn't actually giving me any options when I look at one way out of KUL. Question is, does anyone have any interesting suggestions as to how I can make the trip? Priorities are to maximise the SC's and give me a quality J seat on the longest legs.

Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Look for One World airlines with an Asian non KUL Hub
example CX : KUL-HKG-PER
JQ116 SIN-DPS-PER with Max bundle
KUL -SIN can be on 3K or MH
If you are really intrepid you could do KUL-HKG-SIN on CX then JQ116 SIN-DPS-PER
Add a DPS stopover and you are all set
Of course the trick is to be able to make these return itineraries otherwise one way flights will be very expensive

Or KUL-SIn on Quickstatus suggestion 3K or MH then
QF SIN-MEL overnight and MEL-PER next day? Lie flat on these last 2 legs

One way is a tough ask if you "don't want to go crazy". I'd go via MEL on EK but you'll pay a lot. Otherwise come back economy from KUL and just buy a J seat for a holiday at a later stage for your "treat". Return will be about the same as one way

Hi all,

thanks so so much for the ideas. I like the sound of CX via HKG, nice product and there's a flight that would get me back late on the Saturday with a couple of hours in the lounge at HKG. When I check the CX website there's one flight that's showing at about MYR 6700 which is about 2100 AUD. all of the others come out at about 26,000! Must be a sale fare? Does anyone know how I go about booking this and making sure I get the SC's and points? Never booked another one world carrier before so a bit new to this. The CX website just says contact QF but the flights don't show on the QF website.

thanks again ain for the suggestions!

Just book via CX website the normal way, then insert QF FF number during booking process.
Go to QF status credit calc to find out how many SC you get with that routing - I think J KUL-HKG-PER will be about 200SC.
So $10 per SC is pretty good. Difficult to beat that on that route Indicating that the ticket price is very discounted.
Is this worth it as a value question though. Do the benefits of the next Tier equate to say $1500 extra compared with going direct?

The other good thing about this option is it will let you enjoy the excellent CX lounges in HKG!

Yes, I have to admit that has swayed my decision. Although I'm only sliver at present so presumably that only grants me access to the CX lounge?

If you're flying business you will have access to the CX business lounges and to Oneworld lounges including the QF lounge.
Try to find someone to guest you into the First lounges.

MH has had on-again/off-again sale fares in J from BKK for quite awhile now. The UL code shares exCMB often are scarce in the J cabin, though Y fares are attractive. As well the CX fares exCMB are definitely interesting in all classes.

Happy wandering

Fred

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have the CX flight on hold until tomorrow afternoon. Waiting for approval from the boss to book the remainder of the flights then I'm good to go.
