Hi

I have an upcoming business class flight that I would like to upgrade to first using Emirates miles. Can I do that but credit the points and status credits to Qantas?

Thanks,
Paul

Have you booked an EK or QF code? If it's QF I doubt you'll be able to upgrade. If it's EK you wont get QF SCs.

I expect you'd have to be on EK ticket to be able to use EK points. Not sure if you could book EK, get an upgrade, then change your FF details to QF, eg. at the airport?

No you can't do that. If the flight is on an EK ticket instead of a QF code on EK you could upgrade using your Skywards Miles.
In this case you will only earn QFF miles but zero SC if you swap out your EK membership for your QF one.
If the flight is booked through QF on a QF code it is not possible to upgrade using Skywards miles.

To be clear, it's the "Marketing Carrier" that is important, not "Ticketing Carrier".

"Marketing" carrier is represented by the airline who's code is on the flight number. i.e. whether the booked flight number starts with QF or EK.

"Ticketing Carrier" is indicated by the ticket number prefix. In Qantas' case it is 081-... , for Emirates it is 795- ... and has no relevance, at least for points upgrades.
