Hello. I am a newbie here and don't fly very often. I booked a QF Sydney ( departs ~1630hr) to Milan Economy Class about 6 months ago. When I looked about a week ago there were still lots of seats available in Economy. I was going to reserve a seat at the extra cost of $30. I am travelling alone and it would be wonderful if I could have free seats next to me so I can stretch out a bit. (I am not young!). So I didn't reserve a seat as I thought maybe it is better to ask when i check in if I could sit where it is less likely to be full?

Do you think it is at all likely that there could be lots of vacant seats? ( I only looked at Sydney to Dubai).

A few other questions. Do you get a blanket in Economy? Can you book meals in advance (no special requirements)?

I have joined QFF program so I guess i'll accrue a few points.

I will be flying Qantas Albury to Sydney. Do you think it is safe to check my luggage through to Milan from Albury?

Any other tips for flying?

Thanks

Absolutely fine to check in luggage at Albury all the way through to Milan. It's one the better things about connecting to international from qf link - avoiding the international check in zoo. Albury will you your tickets to Milan.

Seat selection won't get you an empty seat but may allow you to avoid the middle.

Yes to blanket and usually yes to pre-ordering a meal from a limited choice.

Assuming you're on QF1, economy doesn't look too full on 3 October. I'd say there's a pretty good chance of getting a free seat next to you.

The Dubai-Milan flight (assuming you're on the 3.45am departure on 4 October) looks quite empty too.

For the Sydney-Dubai leg, you should be able to pre-select a meal online from about a week before the flight.

thanks Gaz and matt . Do you think I should pay $30 to reserve seat or wait until I get to Albury and get them to select promising seat?

I would probably pay the $30 to select one you're happy with now. You can always change the seat when you check-in (or any other time) for no extra cost.
