Carton of Beer as checked luggage on QF domestic

Hi there,

possibly a bit of an odd question, does anyone have experience checking in a carton of beer cans on QF?

Thinking about bringing back a carton of a local speciality but don't want to buy an extra bag for it. Was thinking about taping it up to make sure it will survive the journey but just not sure if it will be accepted at check in. I have checked in boxes instead of suitcases before, but not recently on QF so any experience is appreciated

Though about it, but already have a carry on and not keen to haul an additional 24 cans across 3 airports (connecting flight).

Cut down the existing carry on as much as possible to reduce weight. You're allowed 2x105cm carry on items. the existing carry on plus the carton (although it will exceed 7kg). I've carried on a carton of wine, albeit back in the 2000s.

I can't help but imagining a circumstance the carton is damaged, bottles break, and the resulting effuse flows on and ruins everyone's luggage.

Surely the best answer is to give QF's baggage number a call:

Good idea to call. but no risk of bottles breaking.

Oops. I was just drunk off the mere idea of a case of beer.

Was thinking exactly that. Perhaps some small micro brewery somewhere off the beaten track.

Even then, to lug a case of beer through a couple of airports seems like a pretty annoying task. I'd look at what the freight costs were to just send the case home.

I would bubble wrap the carton and then box around it again. But otherwise should be no issues.

I had the crew hinting that they might like to try some. Only fair as they did let us stow it in the business overhead.
