Weird though that QF didn't drop the letters altogether - they just greyed them out.

I too thought my computer was playing up.

Suggest the letters have white fill with black outline. Sorry but grey looks tacky.

I don't mind giving a reasonable amount, but a pint! That's very nearly an armful!

:p

Your blood is in great demand. Drink a glass of water next time.

Can't do that on a whim. ;) They freak out every time I go because my muscle condition means I'm slow to get up after sitting down for a while. They always think I'm going to faint, even if it's just my usual body not working properly nonsense.
Maybe I'm O-, whichever is more common. But I think they can give me any blood anyway.

I'll give you a cookie if you do

Blood bank in South Australia gives Coopers Pale Ale. FTW!

Your and You're are importantly different

No their not...

I'll be honest and say I actually thought it was part of a QF/AA promo thing, but I like the blood donation drive so much more :D

That's a clever interpretation!

Neil Perry has changed the rockpool group restaurant signs to remove the appropriate letters as well.

Clever and important campaign.

I used to regularly donate - including plasma for a while.

Australian Red Cross decided I was too much of a risk, being part of the predicted ex-UK vCJD "bow-wave" that never happened. I took a poll of our (MEL) office at the time, 60% of then donors - mostly Aussies - were excluded overnight.

The predicted bow-wave never happened. There's ongoing discussion of whether there's a "sleeper population" that's continuing to donate into the UK blood supply and - until there's a definitive test to determine whether someone is part of that population - I'm guessing the US (and subsequent Australian) ban will continue.

A shame, I enjoyed the altruistic feeling donating provided.

You should contact them again. The Australian form previously asked if you had lived overseas and they blocked previous UK resident donations on the possibility of CJD but they have now dropped that question and I don't believe it is now a consideration

Don't forget to register as a bone marrow donor next time you're in too (if you haven't already). Especially if you've got Asian / African / Indigenous blood in you - they're the hardest to find matches for. If you're a match, then you don't even necessarily have to do the full bone marrow biopsy to harvest your cells - they can do it in a similar fashion to donating blood now in almost all cases.

A+ (and laboratory haematologist in training :) ).

No, the exclusion is still there.

From the Eligibility Quiz:

Q: Lived in the UK for a total of 6 months or more between 1 Jan 1980 and 31 Dec 1996?
A: Yes
R: Sorry, you are ineligible to donate. Thanks for your interest, but unfortunately you can't give blood.

I'll ask them at my next donation. Strange that they no longer ask in the form prior to donating but the quiz states otherwise

Ignoring all the grumpiness at the start of this thread, I would be a willing and regular blood donor, but apparently my English blood is full of Mad Cow Disease..............
