Advice on champagne

Hi,

I too am a lover of Champagne.
Can anyone comment on the "Moet & Chandon Ice". Apparently you have it with crushed ice? I have been scouring the duty free as we are shortly going OS out of Melbourne and have seen it on the web site. Cheers

Vintage Cellars have it. I know Ive tried it but it obviously wasnt that memorable...
 
I agree with you JohnM & your daughter Louis Roederer NV is my choice of NV by a long shot . for that matter any Louis Roederer are all great champagnes ,be it NV, Vintage, Vintage Rose or Cristal..

A personal favourite, and one that has really hooked PartnerJohnM's 27yo daughter is Louis Roederer NV (LAN's champagne of choice so you should have seen that often enough in the LAN lounges). I think it's a very good all-round easy-drinking aperitif style. The usual other non-vintage suspects in that $50-70 price range such as Pol Roger, Billecart-Salmon, Heidseck (QF J's choice), Moet are all good. Lanson (QF F lounge in AKL) is not bad. Personally, I'd steer away from Mumm Cordon Rouge although it has improved from the hole that it went into a few years ago. Bollinger is a heavier style so probably works a bit better with food than some of those other more aperitif styles.

Use that information to put together a mixed carton, give it to your wife for Christmas and let her work through them to pick what she likes the best! Think of the brownie points you'd get for that :cool:.

At ~$41 delivered, Marc Chauvet Brut Tradition is good value, up there with the deals for Perrier-Jouet and Duval-Leroy - Jancis Robinson liked it so much that she served a previous bottling for her daughter's wedding reception (I had Gosset Grande Reserve Brut at mine) :)

FYI Serge Mathieu Brut Tradition is another pick of mine for best value house champagne - especially for fans of pinot noir :)

If you were asking about ageing, then 5yrs can help, thought the champenoise (?) say that they don't disgorge until ready and should be drunk soon after - as always with ageing wine, the optimum time depends upon your flavour preferences :)
