I think we need one for really like (or love or whatever), really dislike and maybe one for you're being a DYKWIA or w@nker - any feedback

I see where you're coming from, but wouldn't that potentially take away from the fact that this is a /discussion/ board?

Plus I'm secretly afraid all my posts would probably end up being tagged with one of the latter two options.

I can appreciate why this might be a good idea. However I can't see any benefit personally in being able to tell another poster they're being a "w@nker" at the click of a button. Even if meant in jest, I can see how that could very easily be taken the wrong way.

Have you ever noticed how Facebook does not have a "dislike" button?

There is enough coughin' going on here as it is without encouraging more.

I think the "like" is enough. Putting anything along the lines of negative feedback (dislike, etc.) could prevent some users from contributing.

I agree there are enough negative comments on here, without making it easier to throw shade.

One option could be a thumbs up/thumbs down model like on OzBargain. Posts that get below a certain threshold get automatically removed. I would think that the comments that would get a thumbs down are the negative comments people make against others opinions, so it might curb some borderline bullying or intimidating behaviour?

Agree totally with your first 2 paras.

I disagree with the idea of 'thumbs down' and automatic post removal, because I think passively or actively encouraging people to vote negatively on others' posts is in itself a form of bullying. I'm cynical enough to think that people would not vote 'thumbs down' only on negative comments, but would use it as a way to try to silence posters they don't agree with.

I think the main legitimate use of a thumbs down post or "dislike" if you call it that, would be after someone posts the latest round of "enhancements" from FF/Hotel Program XYZ ..... other than that there is only downside to it.

/cheeky/

There is a button for dislike / other - it's the "reply" button......
