Lounge food

Vent much! Lamb stew is perfect in this cold weather ðŸ
Valid complaint. But then if they replace the lamb stew with a curry I won't be very happy. You can't keep everyone happy when there is only one hot food choice.

P.S. Almost every week curry is on offer in the BNE business lounge and almost always there is some vegetarian curry in the Qantas lounge. Mass produced curry is slop. Can't they have some decent food in there?

Yes you can't keep everyone happy, so I agree that the variety would be good.

Saying that Pizza from the PER J Lounge is a good option;)

Now now. I am on a diet and pizza is one of the worst things you can eat on a diet. I limit myself to one piece of pizza/day with maximum of 250 calories. And not everyday.

But your first statement was spot on. There used to be variety. I believe that variety has disappeared the last couple of years.

Pizza can be very healthy indeed. But the best (healthiest) pizza are verging on "focaccia" :)

The food choices are much better too but as we are loyal to Qantas we only use Emirates on codeshare. I do like my bubbles though

Singapore International Qantas Club yesterday. Great meals, hot food choices including chef prepared and fantastic desserts:

Here is a question.
In regards to variety what do people expect the lounge should provide?
For me
a) Soup (single variety but rotated over 5 days) especially in winter
b) Salads (4 but tomato slices in a bowl does not count eg. "Tomato Salad")
c) Cheese (3)
d) Hot (2 but a separate bowl of rice or plain pasta does not count eg. "Rice Pilaf")
e) Dessert (2 but only because some people would want it)
The reason I asked is that I am extremely disappointed by the SYD T1 QF Qantas Club, the food there was 6 salads, including Tomato Salad, Plain Pasta with a Lamb Goulash, a mountain of cheese that looked predominantly Tasty. etc I did not see a dessert but I was not looking for it as I decided not to eat there.) that I really did not bother to eat anything. Instead I went to the EK lounge but that was quite a distance to walk there and back when I had less than an hour before boarding but I was bye myself so I could walk and eat rather quickly.

T1 is the international terminal - QF only operates J and F lounge

Qantas Club only in the domestic terminal.

Im presuming you are referring to the J lounge as you mentioned walking over to EK lounge.

What are your expectations regarding the food offering in this lounge?.

I suspect it's a case of expectations not being met as the airlines markets premium cabin and lounges with some hype creating expectations which ultimately are not the reality.

Lately the F lounge is getting all the marketing attention. Have not seen the J lounge get any marketing love from the company.

You are probably closer to the mark in characterising the J lounge as a Qclub.

Or are you referring to T3 Qantas Club?

Considering they went to the EK lounge I would suggest they were in T1, they just got the naming wrong.

Wow I did not know that the lounge was not a Qantas Club but a J lounge, even more disappointing. Looking at the photos on the QF website food clearly is a feature they are promoting but I guess it is the plating that makes the meal.
The lounge looks nice and I do like the décor and layout much more than the EK lounge. However food offering is so poor that when I will be travelling with my family we will not go to the lounge for food but if time permits will go there for a comfortable place to wait and it looks that we will travel on NZ from next year due to access to the NZ lounge in SYD if flying on NZ.
Reading what QF has been doing with SIN, HKG and plans for AKL and BNE I wonder why the SYD T1 JLounge catering offering is poor, my guess is that the fact that there is no FLounge in those ports makes QF to up the offering.
My questions do remain about what people expect from the airline lounge in regards to food offerings as portions on board seem to be reducing with people commenting that the airlines expect people to eat in the lounge but that would only work if there is a decent offering which it seems out of SYD QF only offers in its FLounge, and as an ExWP I know how much better it is up there.

They are both entry level lounges just to confuse things a little more!

I dont expect much from lounge food offering. Even F lounge food is not necessarily restaurant quality.

If I want restaurant quality then I hit up a restaurant.

The T1 J lounge has a buffet style offering so quantity is there.

i must say that the overall offerings at the Qantas Lounges is much better than offerings in many other airline lounges - especially those US ones.

What if you don't like chilli? So there they have two options of "spicy slop"???

I wonder who the "idiot" is that is responsible?? Can't wait to give him a piece of my mind..... :)

More food for me!

And me!!. Nothing like spicy food to test your in flight constitution

Prior to my MH607/ EK404 flight recently - I have durian at durianss2.com the afternoon before heading straight to the KLIA and then at the Golden Lounge had satay and "ayam kerchick" = spicy stuff.

Could this be the reason i was upgraded to J to SIN then F to MEL?

Well, the sauce for the chicken rice would be served on the side so the simple solution would be to not pour any on!

I actually love chilli. My point is the OP puts his penchants above everyone elses.

Ha, fair enough! You can please some of the people all the time, but perhaps you cannot please some people any of the time?

I imagine hot chips might come close, though... :D
