How do you clean your glassware ?

Marge has broken so many Riedel glasses by hand washing that I don't like thinking about it but, if you don't have access to a glass washer with special racking for stemware, we've discovered that our kitchen dishwasher is much safer than hand washing; we've had no breakages in it. Decanters...hand wash, no soap, swirl. Steradent is an interesting idea though.

I have a Fisher and Pykkel dish drawer. All glasses (but NO) crystal goes I. There.
I get good results and can't discern any downside when next drinking wine.
"Beads" I have them, and use them on my decanter, I am however a wee bit paranoid about making sure they don't escape into the sink, they can really stuff up your insinkerator

Most crystal these days is dishwasher safe. Eg, Zalto recommend a dishwasher as the preferred method of cleaning!

I like how the glasses come up after putting them in the dishwasher.
I like the idea of the StemGrip. I will have to investigate further and maybe the beads.

The Steradent tablets work a treat. I had a badly stained aerator and 2 tablets in some warm water all afternoon fixed the problem.

Should work a treat to remove red wine stains from your teeth too

I saw someone said beads from Riedel already. I have the similar thing but called 'Magic Balls' and they work well for decanters and also vases.


Dishwasher (Westinghouse) for all my glassware which is mostly Riedel Vinum and they come up a treat.

On past overseas placements and not having the luxury of a dishwasher I have used a microfiber cloth from L' Attelier du Vin and whilst a bit of effort is needed they come up well. I used the same cloth to finish polish my decanter.

For glasses I use warm soapy water, rinse with hot water and dry the glasses with a special microfibre cloth purchased from McGuigan's in the Hunter (the only thing worth buying there). Riedel also sell a cloth for drying glassware.

I have mostly "old" crystal, a result of being old myself I suppose

On the odd occasion I've had to decant a bottle (been drinking a lot of quaffers lately), I use warm/hot water only. Generally I have finished the bottle on the same night as I've decanted.

Steradent and the decanter balls are interesting suggestions.
