I have a 4.55am flight departure from Muscat. Although I have FF membership with Oman Air, Etihad, Emirates and Qantas I also have Priority Pass membership as backup. I have also seen that I can pay a $USD32 'access fee' since I am flying economy. Other than getting to the airport and checking in as early as possible there is not much else I can do about the time of the flight.
Any up to date comments on the 'Plaza Premium Lounge' as reported in the Guide to Sleeping in Airports.

The Plaza Premium lounge in Muscat is pretty grim. It's very dark and can get very busy as most of the airlines use it. Very little in the way of food except basic sandwiches and perhaps a curry and rice choice. Drinks and wifi available though. Would be better off spending your money in the pub next door.
The only lounge worthwhile at the current Muscat Airport is the OmanAir lounge which you would need Sindbad Status to access. Hopefully the new airport will have a better choice of lounges, unless he runway sinks back into the swamps....

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Things have changed since we last were in Muscat. Around 27 years ago. Not allowed off the plane and it was surrounded by soldiers with requisite armory while we had to refuel.

Arrived at Muscat in the wee sma' hours at the weekend - but did not use a Lounge.

Had a remarkably swift run through, with money changed, visa obtained, Immigration and Customs cleared, baggage collected and hotel transfer completed - and in hotel room, all within one hour of touching down. Quite an impressive performance.

Saw the work-in-progress of the new international terminal today (from the road only) and will report on the lounge experience, assuming all goes well, after the outward flight next weekend. May be too late for the OP? No dates given.

Buzz! You won't believe this - but I didn't see your post from last year until just this minute - and now I'm replying from Transylvania!

Memory is frail and there have been many flights since then on all manner of airlines but I'm fairly sure we were not flying Oman Air.

My best guess would be TK but will have to don the thinking cap.

If anything emerges from the mist, will report back.

Now wondering if there is a thread on Transylvania....:) :) :)

Oh dear!
Not post padding, RooFlyer.
Just can't manage the phone app on a bumpy road in (Did I mention :) ) Transylvania? :)

We had a fascinating week in Oman, and covered a great deal of the country, as we had the luxury of a car and driver, which was a great way to do it.

I know I'm a failure as an AFFer but, sadly, I've no memory of the lounge at Muscat. Mea culpa. Will think harder and try to block out all the lounges since. :)

No worries, pagingjoan :) I spent 4 fantastic days in Transylvania and wrote a TR here. (Unfortunately, in a 'senior moment' I managed to delete the photos!)

If you are going to Brasov, I rave in my TR about a wine bar there 'Terroirs', I wrote about it separately here. Drop by if you can.

Hi RooFlyer.
Wish I had read your TR prior to our visit. :)

We did go to Brasov - but before I saw your wine bar recommendation, alas.

However, we've still managed to sample (diligently) a fair range of Romanian wines during our time here. And I did find in Brasov a smaller version of a great bookstore from Bucharest. "Bookstore" is an inadequate description of Carturesti, which has several levels and numerous rooms filled with books, music, design items, gifts etc. You could even buy a Nespresso machine, should you fancy. We contented ourselves with a life-saving coffee plunger to supplement the kitchen offerings of our charming Airbnb apartment. :)

At MCT there are F and J lounges for Omanair. If you travel premium or have status on another airline there is the Al Majan lounge, which has low inspiration value. EK sent me there. Some airlines might send you to the Plaza Premium lounge instead.

Cheers skip

Hi RooFlyer,

Belatedly, back on home soil, I have confirmed that we were travelling TK on that trip - and I have also conjured up an image of the Muscat Lounge. Quite missable - but better than the non-Lounge waiting areas, as is usually the case. :)

However, I've found a review of the Oman Air Lounge here (Review: Oman Air Lounge Muscat Airport - One Mile at a Time) which, on my quick scan, suggests that things are looking much brighter than they were twelve months ago. While trawling my records, I remembered that the new airport was due for completion shortly after our visit. According to the review cited, that's still the old terminal. But I can assure you that the lounge facilities shown are way better than those we experienced.

Will you have access?

If so, it looks several stars above the earlier version. Best of luck. :)

Thanks pagingjoan :)

Yes, travelling J, so should have access. Unfortunately, the new terminal still isn't finished (same with AUH :( ).

Thanks for that link to OMAAT review - I'd forgotten to look there. I have a 2pm flight out of MCT, so should be able to have lunch there - will report back!

Yes, the "soon to open" that we heard while we were there, seems a bit optimistic, when you review their construction website! :)
At least the Lounge looks way better than we experienced.

And, all that aside, your trip should be fascinating. :)

Are you sure you used the Oman Air lounge 12 months ago? The lounge in the photo looks the same as it's looked for quite a few years. I used to live in Muscat and flew out regularly in J with Oman Air. Absolutely amazing country Oman, the gem of the Middle East.

Agree with the assessment of Oman. We had a wonderful trip.

Am I sure about the Lounge?
Well, it was closer to 18 months ago than a year, but you suggest that it has looked as the pictures do for longer than that, so I won't argue with you.

I can say only that we were travelling on TK, in J, and have Elite status. When I checked back on access and Lounge facilities, it seems that is the Lounge we would have been referred to. But my memory of it certainly does not match the photos in the link I provided, so maybe we were elsewhere, in some Limbo land. It was a middle of the night (03.15am) departure, so maybe that changed things? Perhaps some of the facilities were closed?

The general terminal area matches my memory, so who knows about the Lounge. Apologies for not being a better recorder of the facilities, RooFlyer. :)

Go forth and explore!
