Hi Guys

Feeling a bit peeved this morning. I am a Qantas cheerleader, always fly them when possible internationally as well as domestic.

My Husband and I have a flight on Wednesday BNE/SYD in J as part of our flight SYD/DFW on Thursday both on the same PRN. Bought and paid for this ticket 8 months ago and selected seats.

My Flights alerted me this morning that QF has moved one seat on BNE/SYD flight. Instead of 3A and 3C, I now have 3A, my husband 3G.

I know that there has been lots of discussion here about being asked to change seats for couples so they can sit together, what do you think is the right way to go about asking if we could do this.

Plus why did this happen! I have lots of future international flights booked, all with my seat allocation. Apart from My Flights I check my seats every week just to make sure. For me this is important.

Thanks for your help. I'm probably more concerned that this may well happen on a longer flight.

Same same. HBA-SYD as QFF Plat. Had 4C selected, checked the night before, still good. Checked in at the counter and silly me, didn't check the BP. Only realised when boarding called that id been given 4e in the bloom'n middle! Can't remember the last time I had a middle seat. Yeah, yeah I know, not the end of the world.

So who was in 4c? As far as I could tell just a young bloke travelling alone and a squiz at his PB appeared to show no status.

Ho hum.

That happened a couple of weeks ago to MrP as WP. Row 11 middle seat. Certainly not what I had pre-selected. Check in early at the counter and make sure BP is correct.

Also happened a couple of years ago when I'd booked myself and elderly mother in J. That morning we were together. Didnt check the BP. Handed them in at QP and they noticed we weren't together. They took a look at mum and immediately changed.

Is 3C showing as vacant or now not available? Seat requests are not guaranteed but it sounds rather odd with 2 people on the same PNR and J with 2 seats in each block. You could also check ExpertFlyer to see what the seating is like and if there has been an equipment change (though what that has to do with a domestic flight who knows). If taken, I would check in early and explain at the desk that you are a couple and that the seats originally chosen have been changed and you would like to sit to together if possible. Keep tracking your international leg though hopefully it is OK. We had seats changed on a long haul because of change of plane. Lucky I checked as one of us was upstairs and one downstairs, not actually chatting distance. I suppose it is part of the mystery of QF seat allocations.

3G? I'm guessing you mean 3F? Is 3C (or 3D) available to change into? What's the flight # and what aircraft is operating the flight? Any number of reasons can "reset" seating. Assuming that you can't re-select suitable seating online, I would call QF and ask what they can do. Finally, T-80 should be sometime overnight ans rows 1&2 may become selectable for you.

I am not at all surprised as this has happened to me too, not trying to be "me too isms".
Wanted a window seat on a 767 BNE - SYD many years ago.
Prior to OLCI days, got my BP to find I got a row B.
Seats cannot be guaranteed "(due to Operational and Secutity reasons)".
Of course I was not happy but with airlines best not to cause a scene!

Yes, sorry I meant 3F. All seats are greyed out so no chance of change at the moment. I can't access my flight at the moment but it is 12:30pm next Wed. Thank you, I will check again at T 80. If no joy will call qantas. I'm just puzzled why they would change our seats in the first place since we're on the same PRN so obviously travelling together. Its rather worrying for future flights.

I would phone now - the later you leave it surely the harder to change. It might just be a stuff up and easy to fix now, so why leave it? Although you might be like me - I hate phonecalls and will put up with almost anything, rather than make a call. :)

Personally, I'd call now and see if they'll do something (however unlikely that is). If not, check at T-80. Currently Row 1 is unoccupied as are 2D&F.

TBH, something as little as a 5 minute schedule change can cause seating to drop out of the system.

Thanks so much for that info. I will keep checking until those seats open up. I have flown this sector so many times in J and always have managed to get further forward than row 3. It was hard to believe that a 12:30 flight on a Wed. was full in J.

Thanks to all who've helped with this. I will let you know what happens.

Although I don't know for sure, I've travelled from BNE several times in J at that time of day and have been surrounded by QFi crew dead-heading to other cities.

Do you mean the 12:25pm BNE-SYD next Wed?

You can still buy 5 seats in J - so it's not all that full...

Expert Flyer for what it's worth shows 2 A & C, 3 A, C, D, F occupied and row 1 and 2 D, F blocked (i.e. might open at T80). This is for QF 529 16 March BNE - SYD.

Note - this is for QFF Gold. I see OBB has availability at row 2 as a WP.

Not sure what flight you're on but somestimes if there's a swap from a B738 to an A332 it will bounce you to another seat when your original seat does not exist on the new a/c type eg 3C on a 738 does not exist on a 332. If it's Wed 16 Mar the only flight that day that is an A330 is QF503 0530/0805.

I'm just wondering if there was an a/c type swap from a 738 with the 12/156 config to the 12/162 config whether that could have an effect on J seating even though there are still 12 seats?

It's showing as a 738. I wonder if it's always been a 738? It was 8 months ago that it was booked. Maybe it's changed a couple of times since then?

Just looking at Expert Flyer and QF529 on Wed 16 Mar as 30 rows which is the 12/162 config. When you booked 8 months ago there was only one config loaded for 738 operated flights which is the 12/156 config so I would put money on that having something to do with you getting a different seat.

What seats in J show available to you besides the ones that you currently have?

Displaying the seat map on E/F as a QF WP it shows that the seats already occupied are 2AC, 3AC & 3DF. What is available to me if I were to book would be 2DF and all of row 1 is blocked. I'd have another look tomorrow at about T-80 and see if 2DF or row 1 has opened up to you for selection.

No seats show available to me. In the past I have never been able to select further forward than 3 until nearer the flight. I'm Gold, never been any higher.

T-80 is your friend here ... for this flight that is 4:25am tomorrow morning.

Seriously, I would be online before 4:20am. Check and keep checking.

Such has twice worked for me this very week with MEL/BNE flights.
