There is no longer a lounge that you can access in Kolkata if flying SQ J. Instead I was given a S$20 voucher to use on inflight shopping. Doesn't help you much in the airport!

No Air India or Oberoi Clipper lounge?

Doesn't help you much in the air either... $20 doesn't go far at all in the catalogue.

I received a message of apology the day before the flight. At checkin, same apology and handed the voucher for inflight shopping. Maybe if I had sufficient Star Alliance status I may have been offered an alternate lounge, but I was "jus" a J passenger.

*A J pax have privileges at other *A lounges.

$20 voucher for inflight shopping? What's that going to buy you? This is of little use when stuck in airport for a couple of hours. SQ J ticket should've got you access to Oberoi lounge

Wow that's ridiculous. Can't believe they couldn't tie up access with another lounge provider.

And $20 for inflight shopping instead of lounge access? Is that some kind of joke?

As mentioned you do not need *Alliance status to access a *Alliance lounge as a business class customer on a *Alliance flight. Same as Oneworld.

The problem here is there is no *A lounge in CCU, but according to *A website a J ticket on SQ should give you access to the Oberoi lounge, unless SQ no longer contract this lounge and the website is slow to update?
