When DYKWIA becomes the full <airline> tanty

I agree completely that requirements can be used as excuses (or "reasons") for almost anything in life where there is a potential to misuse authority and power. In this case Mr 1A repeatedly refused to comply with lawful instructions issued by the crew, including the captain. He was lucky that he was not arrested and did not have charges pressed against him, something that is more likely to occur today. Having seen the whole performance from a distance of a few inches I am certain that it was the correct decision.

He was offloaded, though? What happened after that would be anyone's guess, unless you followed it up, or it made the news. He might have been charged (that procedure doesn't have to happen on the aircraft whilst he is being seized), though my money would have been that he would have probably been given just a stern warning not to do it again, and put on the next flight at no additional expense (except on his pride / reputation, plus any time lost / hotels etc. that he'd either eat or try and bum off the insurance company but not the airline).

I agree that it is not possible to know what happened out of sight but he was not arrested and there were no police in sight, only security and a few burly staff doubling as security. He was told that he would not be given another seat on the next flight and that he would have to buy another ticket, I cannot remember reliably if he was told that BA would not carry him but I think he was told this.

I thought the idea was to walk down the priority boarding queue, whilst yelling "peasants" at everyone else.....

Lets bring it back online then. On the night flight last week, going home I sat in 4C. Just when I was comfortable this guy says, "you in the right seat buddy". That's right I was in 4C on the way over, 4D on the way back! He clearly didn't KWIW, so I apologised about 4 times from 4D right up to take off. We then settled into going one for one on the wines, with the CSM bringing us the good stuff from the front. Turns out he is P1 to my platinum. Nice discussion, fun and frivolity. He flys daily, never J domestic but F for international. J had about 6 empty seats. As we're getting off, he just says look at all those empty J seats, Qantas never upgrades. Or something like that. I could only agree that he should probably get an occasional upgrade.

And don't call me Shirley.

My family constantly complain about me dressing like a dag and how can I be taken seriously wearing ruggers, polo shirt and croc sandals sporting a beard just long enough so people know it doesn't belong and you should have a shave.

So on our first F Flight QF1 SYD-LHR, we have stopped at Dubai but because the kids are unattended minors, we had to wait until everyone was off the plane to collect them, hence very late through customs and no-one to direct us. Due to a plane out of action the A380 was running 4 hrs late and only had 90mins turn around in Dubai and already 30 mins gone. People are already lining up at the boarding gate and I went up through the Business class line to ask the lady where we had to drop the kids and where the lounge was. This guy in the economy line, looks me up and down, and loudly says, "back of the line is that way mate". The lady on the desk says loud enough so he can hear, "First Class board from the First Class lounge upstairs". He didn't seem to care for my smirk as I walked past.

Couple of hours later (having gotten changed back into my pj's), I ducked down to check on the kids, and came back up through the back stairs into the galley area of J and there was a bunch of guys standing there chatting and a FA. One of the guys says something like "you people aren't allowed in here", referring to the Y pax downstairs. The FA looks at my pj's and says, "First class is through here sir".

Recently all 6 of us flew SFO-JFK-LHR-OSL as part of the $1400 mistake fare from 6 months ago, however, our transcontinental booked into F not J. So we are about to board and they called for parents with young kids and First class passengers, so we all start strolling up. The 4 kids are aged 9-13 and a J pax goes, "seriously, isn't that pushing it a little too far". Couple of minutes later, as he walks into the F cabin, he stops and looks at the kids, mumbles something and heads a couple of rows back to his seat :)

Love all the stories, but it would be great to hear one from "the other side"; someone who has done a grand DYKWIA that has made it on this page. Why did they do it; hard day at the office, just wanted to be a pain, etc???? And have not seen many "when the DYKWIA walked past us in seat 33D". We must have all thrown a tanty at some point in our travelling life.....

I don't think it was an exact DWKWIA tanty but there was the time they tried to remove me from my exit row seat and give it to a staff member and their minor child (kids were about 5-8?). They called us to the counter and tried to give us new seats, stating operational rules on how off duty staff have exit rows as they are trained for emergencies and I point blank refused to give them my boarding pass and told them that a minor is not legally allowed to sit in that seat so no and if they had better get an airport manager down here to approve breaking airline rules to help out a buddy (the minor child thing). Edit: I might have thrown out "Im aware of the federal airline guidelines, are you?" or to that effect

My only excuse is it was almost 24hrs of travel by that point and I had hit the wall and was tired. Don't know if I would have been as blunt and forceful in todays climate.

Behold!!

The mysterious world of the DYKWIA's is finally revealed to the unwashed masses behind the curtain....

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Did you have status at the time?

I already did so. The tanty consisted of me asking the CSM while disembarking at the destination: "Don't you do greetings to platinum anymore?" They claimed they did, I replied "you didn't greet me."

Normally I don't give a stuff about the greetings. But I got mighty annoyed mid-flight to see real glass and bottles of wine being snuck down the back, when I had no offer to ask if there was anything they could do. Nothwithstanding that I never ask for anything anyway.

I once mentioned to the family that I was slightly disappointed with the lack of a platinum greeting. Now when they ask how the flight was, if I answer in the negative they reply "what happened, didn't they say hello".

I'll bring the popcorn. :p

I've just come back from a US jaunt with MrsZim and KidZim(12). Had one incident where a DYKWIA type did a bit of a mumble under his breath after my quip. We were flying AA and we went to PB as we were flying AA F . Normally my son likes to go first a few paces In front of me and sometimes it quite amusing to see the FA reaction when he hands over a F or J boarding not pass. Well this time, a "helpful" type turned to my son, who I was right behind so clearly with him and said this is for First and Elites buddy, Economy is over on other side. My son turned and looks at me to which I remarked "Oh this is for First class is it?" to which I got a quick "yep" so I thanked him for confirming we were in the right place to which he grumbled something under his breath and we then watched him walk past the F Cabin and took our seats.

I usually ignore any snide remarks, not that I get actual remarks just bad looks, but reading them all bunched up here in this thread, I feel like telling the sniders, "Mind you own bloody business".

On our recent P&O International cruise a DYKWIA pommy person (lady?) actually asked one of our friends 'how do you working class people afford a cruise?'
I missed her answer as I was laughing so much.
