Qantas Staff Class - the new Business Class cabin

Now, I used to see paying customers in Business class, but these days play a game " spot the qantas employee" in business class. It is very easy, they dont wear uniforms but it is so easy to identify them. I wonder why qantas staff rank above passengers when it come to business class. Why are those seats not being offered as points upgrade seats to passengers?

They have to move staff around somehow, and as any frequent flyer knows, it's pretty crummy down the back.

Bit of a feisty first post! If you do a bit of a search on here you will find that this topic has been discussed previously, however some of the staff travel is mandated by EBA's, hence the priority above points upgrades.

Interesting observation Matt.
I think QF offers passengers lots of opportunities to upgrade to business well in advance of staff travel. At least this has been my own experience.

As someone who has done a fair amount of travel on airline staff benefits (although rarely on QF). Those tickets are only confirmed at check in at the earliest and as late as at the gate. By this point all upgrades should have been processed if passengers have applied for one.

Though I got upset on a BNE-SYD flight when it was JQ staff in the J cabin.I knew one of them and they were in uniform.

In my recent experiences there are less Qantas staff in business class.

And yes this topic comes up a lot. We all have our opinion on the matter and there is no right or wrong.

Yes all on stand by so no guarantee of a seat most staff prefer y and put money aside for accom and or getting back to work when return flight unavailable

Are you certain they are QF staff? I've been mistaken for a QF staff a number of times. When you have a fixed flying pattern, you often end up on flights that are manned by crew who knows you by name and have regular chats about their day, family, flights, planes, etc. Sometimes the pax next to you just assumed you work for QF. Anyway my 2 cents' worth.

I believe Aeoilis' post is more the case. Cant say I've ever seen staff in J, row 4 on a 737 yep but recognized the pax as a well known QF pilot

What is right is what Qantas defines. They're a business - not a democracy. If you don't like it (and who knows why it would have any impact on you at all...), fly another airline.

I completely agree with you. Thank you for demonstrating my point. There is a very clear "right" side to this argument to all but the most unreasonable.

Interested to know this too. I was once asked if I was QF staff by an FA paxing from PER-SYD who sat beside me. I did know two of the FA's working the J cabin from previous trips. The verbal exchanges were jovial and the FA's called me by first name but other than that I can't work out how that happened.

As long as everyone who has paid to be there (either by revenue, or award redemption) is there, it really doesn't matter how anyone else gets there, does it?
