I have just started the process of planning our next journey, at this point my thoughts are travelling via Asia to Europe, on to North America and back via Hawaii, but nothing set in cement yet, this one is going to take a while to plan properly. I am sure I will drop in and out of this forum from time to time seeking advice, I know it will be readily offered and gratefully received :).

My initial thoughts are depart in April, with our first stop Singapore, my initial thoughts are 7 nights here, is that too short, too long or sufficient to see the major sights and have a bit of an explore.

Thanks in advance for any advice received.

Yes, indeed maybe even more than sufficient. Although having that much time will give you an opportunity to visit the nearby Malaysian area the name of which eludes me at the moment.

I reckon 4-5 days is enough for Singapore.

In my opinion 7 nights is probably too much time. I love Singapore, but a few nights is generally enough.

The Malaysian city is called Jahor Bahru. I also agree, 4-5 days is ample for Singapore. See Gardens by the Bay, the zoos, a city tour, a bit of a walk around and your are done and very much ready to move on.

Try Johor Bahru instead.

Others here might disagree, but If you can afford it, a night at the MBS so you can use the infinity pool is pretty cool.

Personally I think 3 days in Singapore is ideal, maybe 4 if you really love Hawker food. YMMV

I was a long time transiter of Singapore and finally decided to make it a stop-over with some friends. After 4 nights and 3 full days, we were ready to move on.

At the zoo night safari, don't bother with the tram. Just use the walking paths otherwise you will queue for a while. Also eat before you go as the food offerings there are ordinary and expensive. The night safari is excellent though.

Just got back from a 6 night / 5 day stay in Singapore with the family. We didn;t do the zoo or Sentosa (did these about 2 years ago) but there were enough things to do to keep a family occupied (my kids are 7 and 9). Although they did protest about walking around in the heat.... so this did restrict what we could do each day as all they wanted to do was swim in the hotel pool.

We also had 3 nights at the Legoland resort outside Johor Bahru - the kids loved the rides and water park, not that much for adults to do (apart from finding your inner child on the water slides and roller coasters).

I gained a couple of kg's while away as the food options are fantastic.

Just 2 adults, so will be doing adult things only, but I like your comment re the food, am really into spicy or hot food.

Not to worry; there are about 10 chilli crabs with your name on them at Clark Quay. In these situations, I throw my inhibitions away and say 'heck, I AM a tourist so I'm gunna behave like a tourist'. Just put the bib on and chow down with a nice long, cold beer. After that, Little India awaits you; you can choose north or south India and probably everywhere in between!

I have transitted SIN many times. Love to spend a night there. Think anything more than 2-3 nights would be too much unless you had an itinerary of things you wanted to do.

Depends what you want to try, yes it can be pretty much just a big city to look around...

I am not one for shopping although on some trips I have probably had a bit of a look at the shops although don't find the prices fantastic unlike maybe 20 years ago...

If you are not big ferris-wheeled out from around the world there is the Singapore Flyer...
A couple of years ago i took my son there and we spent several days over on Sentosa doing mainly probably children stuff but there were still a few enjoyable things for adults, a couple of big aquariums and Adventure Cove Waterpark had some ok pools to swim in, rides and a nice easy tank to float around with a coral reef and some nice tropical fish to look at, much easier than going snorkelling in the sea etc...
There is Universal Studios with also had some decent rides as well as some big crowds...
Walking around the city and looking at some of the sites could be another day espeically around the marina and the Gardens by the Bay, maybe two if you want to go and explore some of the other areas of the city.
There is the zoo as well...

Bit of a write up on it here if your interested at all... One very full on family holiday in Singapore - Day 1-2 - Life's To Be Lived.com

So yeah 7 days may be a bit too much, depends on the pace you like to move and how many things you want to try...

What was this like? I just took my son over to California a few weeks ago and crammed in quite a bit in a week but missed out on this Legoland park between LA and Sand Diego, plus it would have cost over A$230 for the both of us to get in from recollection with the lousy exchange rate...

What would you do for that couple of days if you didn't have an itinerary of things to do?

Why am I restricted to 10 Chilli Crabs

There are many AFFers who stay in SPG hotels that sit by the pool for 4-5 days.

I'd rather be out there watching the grass grow from up close.
