Hi

I am looking at booking return flights to Europe for around May-June 2017 using Qantas FF points.

I'm looking at flying from Perth to Zurich, Milan or Rome and back. Obviously Qantas doesn't fly these routes themselves, so the trip would be on another airline's metal. I know that if I choose Emirates metal, the trip will be around 224k points plus $1,200 pp in carrier fees.

I have two questions – can anyone tell me what I would expect to pay for other airlines booked through one world? I can select Qatar, but that is 240k points per person and I currently only have 230k so I can't see the charges (will have >240k by the time it comes to book) – what would I be expecting for carrier fees for that trip on Qatar? Or Cathay points and fees?

Finally, if I call Qantas, is there scope to mix the flights between business and first? That option is not available online. Ie could I book per-dxb in first and dxb-Zurich in business? If so, what amount of points and carrier charges would I be expecting for Emirates and Qatar?

I've tried googling this information but I can't seem to find anything. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

I just did a quick search for flights for Perth to Rome in the next month. Mixed options are available with EK under the First class option. J to Dubai, F to Rome.

J on Qatar is 208k + $819 return

Try using a multi city search Perth to HKG to Rome to show Cathay availability but still need to go via Dubai.

Thanks for that, I didn't think to check multi city! Looks like for Emirates the break down is 72k per-Dubai in J, vs 108k in F, and then 40k dxb-zur in j, 75 in F. I assume numbers to Milan will be the same and Rome slightly lower. I might do the dxb-zur leg in F if for no other reason than to see the F lounge at Dubai!

168k (+AUD617.62 in taxes) to do PER-DXB-ZUR in EK F if you keep the time in DXB to less than 24 hours. It can be done all on the A380, too, which would be nice.
