Don't know about the shrimp bit but another public holiday for good reason, our national day.

If only I was able to score a day off.... alas, I've just picked up a new project (3x the size of the one I had been working on) so shall be spending most of tomorrow (or today, for you guys!) reading the contract. Happy days!

Humdinger of a storm through our part of Canberra last night, hail stones have decimated our vege patch, lost power for a couple of hours and it looks like the kitchen and family room ceiling will need to be replaced due to water ingress. Once the gutters fill with hail, it forms a nice little dam, causing the valleys to back up and water to seep under the tiles into the roof cavity.

At least the bower doesn't seem to be damaged. Plus he seems to be still around doing minor repairs.

I'm presuming those over at the shindig on the lawns of parliament house missed out on the hail. After a drive this morning, it seems that it was quite a narrow band of hail that went through, there were a lot of trees down.

We also need to be better prepared with torches, matches and candles all in a readily accessible location with fresh batteries!

50 years today since the 3 Beaumont children disappeared. As a child I remember it well, and also the change in childhood freedoms.

I'm doing my bit for the Meat and Livestock corporation, I plan to spit roast some lamb.

In Sydney we get ferry boat racing and a Qantas SHB fly over at 12.45 (weather permitting).

The bizzare weather continues.

This was a thunderstorm that passed through on the coast last night around 8pm. Blue sky and stars all around, black rain in the middle...

Why are you guys so anti BM? No 1 caller for 7 in tennis, AFL and Olympics for such a long time - what get's up your noses?

Extremely over rated, the commentary is generally uninformative.

Dont tell me your not a supporter of Sterlo's, Rabbit's and Gus's blatant Sydney centric / anti any interstate teams commentary of NRL matches?

I turn those clowns off as well. Or more precisely I haven't made a serious commitment to NRL since superleague.

Ah yes. Norman May. Very entertaining. I remember well, "There are two possible outcomes of this match. England could win, or Australia could win, or it could be a draw.":)

The best Norman May moment was calling the swimming, commonwealth games maybe, and he was just making bad call after bad call. Just getting it all wrong. Anyway, about a month later there's Norman doing an add for OPSM, with his new glasses. :D

Coopers Brewery doing well in NSW despite overall shrinking beer market:

Hipsters help Coopers lift profits as beer sales hit new low

Globally in the industry so much consolidation has taken place. Coopers remains largest Australian brewer.

My sydney local had cooper's Pale Ale for the same or cheaper than my Adelaide pubs.

Very sobering reminder of how lucky I am. Sat next to someone on the train this morning who had a written plan for 2016. It included in no particular order:
  • I will not let people make me think I'm WORTHLESS
  • I will move closer to my son
  • Get a driver's licence
  • Get a car

Plus a whole heap of other targets to let them start a micro business sowing, and start volunteering to help the elderly.

The conversation revelled that her dad died when she was 8 and the mum has constantly put her down. Had a break down, and it showed. Didn't tell me the same age twice (42 or 43) well presented and clean looking clothes but other things were messy.

My assessment is that she has an ambitious list. But I really wish her the best to achieve the plan. Especially, maintaining her self worth.
Very glad that my taxes are helping her.

Just been reading comments about it in The Australian. Consensus: politically correct tripe. It would be better if Google paid its fair share of taxes in Australia. Seems about right to me.

There are certainly some dinosaurs around in Australia. They might have a point if they could actually articulate how it is politically correct. Nothing wrong with being reminded of the destruction of an advanced culture that started on this day all those years ago.

I almost played to twice my age! ;)

Just remember Don Bradman and playing golf. In his later years he tried to go around with fewer strokes than his age - and he usually succeeded. Of course you need to be chronologically more than 70 for this to be feasible

Didn't know Bronwyn Bishop took the train?
