Expert advice needed, thanks. Theoretically I should be able to use Krisflyer points via the Star Alliance partnership on a trip to Auckland (from Brisbane) I need to take in March, however I am at a loss as to how to make this work. Star Alliance says you need to contact the Frequent Flyer Program to which you belong. From the Krisflyer page and schedules, flights are available, I presume codeshared with Air NZ. Book now says no flights or seats available and contact your local Singapore airlines office. Doesn't seem to matter what dates I put in as an example. Just after advice from others about this before considering if I go to the trouble of contacting Singapore airlines. I have expiring Star Alliance points which I'd like to use. I can also convert them to Velocity and book with Virgin using Velocity points which at the moment seems a much easier option. Thanks.

You should use something like united.com to check availability. While no guarantee have found that when United shows Air NZ, SQ will allow you to book. You then ring up SQ and they will book it for you.

gecko if you call KF on +61 2 8228 1188 you can give the agent your dep / arr ports and dates that suit and they will search for you - it can take some time but if you don't want to wait ask for a call back - it's not difficult - if it's available they will be able to book it for you.

Yes.

One can also search ANA for *A Awards to speed things up, but having said that I have had operators on the above number find additional possiblities/routings for me by being "nice".

This included once where I wanted to get to CDG from MEL and SQ had no availability. ANA showed that could route through Frankfurt with *A with longish layovers. Operator said she could book it with *A, but to leave it with her. 6 hours later she rang back with 3 seats in J on SQ on the much more direct MEL_SIN_CDG route. :)

I would add to that checking via ANA may allow you to check more complex routings that the Krisflyer operator may not think to check and therefore gain flights that just checking the more direct routes may show as no availability.

ie I once booked a daughter to fly back from Ghana after she had volunteered in Togo for 3 months, and initially no availaibity showed when I called up. Playing around a bit with the ANA I managed to get her routed through Thailand so she could have a 2 week holiday there on the way back to MEL. This was then booked through the operator and at that time thedateswere tweeked slightly to gain the best connections.
