Maybe there will finally be another AA code share into PER. Although with the new "terms" that may turn out to be not that useful...

There has also been talk of MEL.

However, as far as I know, JAL is restricted in what routes they can open for another year or two due to their government bailout when they went through bankruptcy.

We've been through this many times. QF is not THE national airline. It is an Australian based airline with its main international hub in SYD. It offers connections (multiple daily) through that hub to destinations that makes geographic sense to. JL will do likewise (with single daily frequency or less) if the rumour proves to be true.

Reading ABT tonight, there seems that both NH and JL may be interested in the Perth/Tokyo route. More the merrier as they say.
