Hi all

I currently have a SFO - SYD J ticket booked with QFF points. Due to a change of plans I now want to end in Melbourne rather than Sydney.

Does anyone know if its possible to add a domestic leg to a reward ticket? From my search on the Qantas site it should be the same number of points. I dont imagine Syd - Mel availability would be an issue, however I'm reluctant to mess with my booking because it was near impossible to get the SFO - SYD flight!

Thanks

You should be able to make the change, provided there is a reward seat on the SYD-MEL sector (which there usually is). The points required are probably the same, but you'll most likely need to pay a 5,000 point change fee and any difference in taxes.

You shouldn't lose the SFO-SYD sector unless you tried to cancel and rebook.

Thank you, exactly the answer I was hoping to hear!

Perhaps once you've checked there's a seat maybe call to ask for the change? If the cost in points and $$ are too much then booking it separately would be fine if it's all QF.

Thanks. Slightly different question flowing from this, if I booked it as separately is there any way to add it to my PNR so that my luggage gets checked through to MEL?

I have never had a problem adding a separate booking as long as it is still a OneWorld airline - have done it with BA to QF; AY to IB etc.

Note though that you will still need to pickup your bag before customs in Sydney and re-check it at the domestic transfer desk. That will happen whether you are on same ticket/PNR or separate. Hope that makes sense.

By the way, by "adding" I meant at check-in. So in your case, at check-in at SFO, ask them to book you all the way through.

There's no difference in points for SFO-SYD-MEL compared to SFO-SYD. You will need to pay for the additional taxes and the 3500 points change fee. It's certainly cheaper than booking it separately.
